    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

My experience as well. The GS1000s are very picky with their source. Some digital sources really make them sound congested and harsh, whereas the HD600 is much smoother and coherent with an average source. But, they really do come alive with a dynamic cartridge on a turntable. This could be said...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

It really scales well. Quite a few folks still use the HD600 in ultra high end systems. The HD800 may be more resolving and have a wider soundstage, but it can also be a little hi-fi sounding, not in the best way.

Totally agree. I like my HD600 better than the LCDs for 90% of any music with vocals and acoustic instruments.

    Your “wow” headphones

Out of the Senns, I've only had the HD600 and HD650. Both are really impressive headphones when properly amped. I've tried a few other Senn models, but not for long enough to be able to offer a meaningful comparison. The general consensus here is that the HD600 has a more balanced frequency...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

The HD600 certainly holds it's own even among most headphones that are several times its price. I bet that most people have never heard it's potential in a good vinyl system with a proper phono stage set up with a juicy gain and a good head amp. This is where the HD's can be stunning.

    Your “wow” headphones

Most headphones that I've heard that had an initial wow factor usually became fatiguing in some way over time, especially those with bigger presentations like many Grados. The keepers for me are the ones that get out of the way like Stax and the better Senns.

A headphone tribute goodbye to Tyll from Innerfidelity

Tyll had golden ears and a great personality for what he did. He really had the ability to make you feel that you were in the room with him. He's very much missed. Come back Tyll if you're out there!

Am I the only one that totally lacks hearing for soundstage/stereoimaging/depth?

Both the quality of the recording and the source are the two most important important factors in achieving soundstage or " headstage" in my experience. Most of today's over compressed recordings just won't offer much of this. For the source, vinyl playback with a good MC cartridge is usually...

good headphones for poor/badly recorded/mastered music?

In my many past comparisons of the HD650 and LCD2, I have found them equally forgiving. I don't think the LCD2 is a step up from the HD650, unless you just want a thicker, slower, plunkier sound. I'm not dissing the LCD2s, they are still great headphones. I have never heard an LCD4, but based on...

    Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition

Totally agree. The wide dynamic swings in classical music can be problematic when using headphones, especially for some recordings that have an exaggerated dynamic range. A remote volume control would be a wonderful addition to any headphone amp. If it degrades the sound maybe it could be...

    Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition

The original pads on the Sigma shown on your first link are not the same as the the 507 pads shown on your second link. The 507 have more padding at the base and one side. Their is debate among head-fiers as to whether the current pads sound as good as the originals. However, the current pads...

Classical/Symphony listening looking to upgrade from Beats/Bose

Sennheiser 600s or 650s are fabulous for classical/ orchestra. But, I would eventually get an amp for them.

    The Stax Thread III

Agreed. The Lamda Signatures have the most "stat-like" sound of any Stax headphone. Sort of like the original Quad ESLs. Even more so than the 007mk1s or 009s. They don't have a big wow factor at first, but once your ears adjust to their lighter presentation they are unmatched in their...

Senn HD600 or HD650 for Classical Music?

trenino, both the HD650 and HD600 really need a good amp to sound right for classical (or any music). There are a lot of headphones out there these days that are halfway decent without an amp, but these are not in that group. I know these two headphones quite well and listen to a lot of...

I have compared the W11JPNs and the W3000's side-by-side over the past few months and actually preferred the W11JPNs most of the time. The pair of W11JPNs I used have a very unique sound signature, ultimate luscious in the mids, less agressive in the highs and have more body overall. The...

    LCD-2 Bass

I've owned two D5000's and the LCD2 and completely agree with Dubstep Girl's comments on the LCD Denon comparison.   The D5000 is a great headphone, but its strengths are from the midbass and above (ie. tonality, ease, intimacy, etc.) In comparison, the unique strength of the LCD2 is in...

Which sounds closer to esw9? W3000 anv, W5000 or W1000X?

Agreed. None of the W series ATs are similar to the ESW9. The ESW9 is just a mellower presentation. The W's have a more upfront and alive sounding midrange that is part of the AT house sound. They also have a livelier, faster PRAT factor while the ESW9s are slower and very relaxed.

    Soundstage of LCD2 vs LCD3 vs HD800

Quote:   TWIFOSP, I know you've mentioned that you've tried different amps. But I really think that amp and source compatibility have a lot to do with this center channel thing. I didn't get a noticeably strong center channel and pinpoint imaging from the LCD2 rev 2 until I went to the...
