iFi audio's worst kept secret: the hip-dac!
Just posting to say I got this as a gift from my brother who knows I've been an audiophile for 50+ years, and I'm really enjoying it. Using it with IEMs and balanced cable and it sounds great.- judmarc

I have a Geek Out I remain quite pleased with. 5 years later hindsight is 20/20, but at the time there weren't particular alarm bells.- judmarc

I personally would not be happy to receive a Wave. I already have not just one but at least a couple of devices that will serve the equivalent purpose: (1) A Pono, an excellent crowdfunded DAP delivered on budget and on time; (2) My phone, which can play full resolution (RedBook or hi res) files...- judmarc

Would suggest further communications regarding legal proceedings take place at and through the Audiophile Style website, which has a thread with all the latest pertinent information.- judmarc

Yes, there are literally dozens of these, some quite good, on the market. I've got a Pono, and can set up my phone to stream hi res music from home or streaming service to a portable DAC, and from there to headphones or an audio system. There really is no need for another DAP, and I don't know...- judmarc

Ah, early October - I love the whooshing sound deadlines make as they fly past, as Douglas Adams said. In an October update LH said a final PCB had yet to be designed, so whatever “completed the hardware design” was supposed to mean, apparently it didn’t include the actual electronics. Or...- judmarc

Or perhaps it's already been developed (this isn't rocket science), Jarek spoke out of turn, and is trying to walk it back. Impossible to know without information we can rely on, and certainly no one associated with LHL has proved to be reliable over the years.- judmarc

That's funny in a dark sort of way. A "product" that may be entirely hypothetical won't be released, if at some indefinite future point it is ever ready, because Light Harmonic will at such indefinite future date be suddenly ultra sensitive to the thoughts of backers in return for whose millions...- judmarc

This contradicts your previous statement that the reason it isn't being released is due to possible public outcry. Obviously if the product hasn't even been developed, that would be the reason it hasn't been released. So as is so often the case, we are left to wonder which of the various...- judmarc

Got a Pono way back when myself. Still sounds great. A crowdfunded project delivered as promised and on time, imagine that. Hard to imagine anyone bothering to wait 5 years for a product that is neither unique nor special nor particularly difficult to produce.- judmarc

If they truly had something in a condition we would normally think of as a "release candidate" in September 2017 (fully operational, a few last bugs to be worked out) and couldn't get it into production in the intervening two years, that tells you (1) how close it really was to a working model...- judmarc

As with many things in this saga, there have been multiple varying statements about this. The funds for the "failed" version (I believe more than the amount originally solicited for the campaign) were rolled over into the new campaign, which was funded far above the requested amount. For anyone...- judmarc

The latest update claims there was "only" about $650K for Wave. This is over a million dollars less than is shown at the Indiegogo page. The update claims there are "less than 10" remaining configurations; the last chart I saw from LHL showed either 3 or 4 as I recall. There is a claim that...- judmarc

Yes, I think that has been the case for quite a long time. I believe consolidated versions were first shown in similar format in an earlier update, though I don't recall off the top of my head whether they were the same as these. At that time, in response to questions, LHL said both that no one...- judmarc
