I had actually tried Rockbox previously on my iPod Mini and 5th gen iPod but didn't like it much. Besides, I don't think Rockbox supports the iPod Classic (6th gen)

How much better sounding was the J3 compared to your (current gen) Nano? The Touch is noticeably better than the Nano...
