    Yamaha hph mt220 thread (Merged)

Ok so I have a new in box 220 and my one with 100+ hours on it so let's see how important this burn in stuff really is. I'll also compare it to the brainwavz pleather memory foam pad without any mods. Started with the old fio x3 but it was adding a cludge to things that wasn't helping the...

That might help hearing the sound bounce off your ears but, you're still feeding a loud signal to your ears, maybe get one of those spl meters for phones and tablets and see where it's at? Don't go messing up your hearing! In my experience the out of head holographic thing is surprisingly...

Edit: Failing to reproduce what I heard below with the tuning, maybe something else went wrong? Oh well, the old x3 is wonderful and the new one is very good for treble heavy music, just has a weird tonality for music with more weight. Hmm I think I've found another cool thing about my mod...

Positioning alone really just increased certain characteristics of the headphone and decreased others, post mod the new x3 bears no similarity to how it was before while the original x3 is like it was but better. I think the stock headphone is severely limited by, something, and post mod that...

Wait, I found the word to explain what's potentially different from my mod to others; transparent. None of what I said of my impressions holds when I changed source, the old x3 sounds more traditionally hifi (-1 on treble again though). The new one imparts a strong ethereal quality on things...

I should stress that I am 100% guessing at all this. I basically fumbled around in the dark and made them sound a lot better, no contest. You should give it a try :D I love how everything about this headphone makes no damn sense at all...

Ohh lucky. What's the lineup these days?

This is the Ghost-Dracula-Mod, so titled because it makes the headphone sound transparent and seems to remove all reflections. It very dramatically improves overall sound quality, gives a very clear holographic soundstage, and makes the headphone very neutral and true to the components feeding...

I guess it's possible instead of my change making the headphone sound good it could just be these pads aren't all they're cracked up to be. How do the pleather memory foam pads compare to the velour angled in general?

Edited that messy mod guide above, very easy and has a dramatic effect on the whole presentation of the headphone, not just the soundstage surprisingly. Much smoother sound overall. edit: I think I'm just gonna wait until I figure out what I'm doing before I post about what to do I think...

Oh weird, I thought these things were on the way out, just discontinuing the old color? That's cool, should be priced the same since these remain obscure for some reason. I hope they don't think the color is the only thing wrong with them stock though, has anyone there worn the stock pads? Cable...

Oh, I'm dumb, of course something like this exists  First two peaks are actually more similar than i thought, 8-9 is sharp tho. 5k-6.5k is quiet.

Naw. Everything gets a bit louder, obviously, and a bit of treble goes weird, like shelved or something. I'm pretty sure the headphones are just tuned for a 5k dip for headstage. Actually if you wanna help, download http://www.tucows.com/preview/502787/SineGen and test how your stuff sounds...

Hello, I have also bought one of these soundhats. I've had em a couple weeks, got em for $100 bucks used. Mostly using the old fiio x3 tho I also have access to a 2nd gen one.  The brainwavz pleather memory foam pad things are way better than the original pads, which are like some sick joke of...

    Orthodynamic Roundup

Serge44's contributions were certainly the most significant part of that wiki, my apologies to him if any of his articles, images, or manuals are not contained in that backup. I had said it was fine to clone articles from my wiki to Faust's, I guess that didn't happen for some reason. I checked...

    AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?

I've fallen in love with my Sexytetts for like the 6th time, though the EPs for once. The sewer grating on my ear thing isn't too cool though and I guess I'll have someone with motor skills stuff panty hose in there or whatever. Any effects on the sound when you do it? I'm thinking my ears will...

    Orthodynamic Roundup

Just popping in with a quick question: what, if any orthos are good for portable use? No external amp, just straight out of the player. IIRC the Pro 30 was supposedly such a headphone? Oh and have there been any big discovories or revelations since I've started neglecting this thread and my...

    The Stax thread (New)

I put the SR-X pads on my ET-1000 and the difference is night and day. Went from being less comfortable than a grado to being about as comfortable a supraaural as I've worn. Most importantly the difference in pads doesn't seem to have shifted the frequency response in a noticeable way. Thanks...
