Over ear headphones with low weight
A few years ago I found a neat pair of headphones that were only about 160 grams, went over the ears, but had very high impedance. I cannot remember the brand or model, but I was curious if there's any headphones out there that meet similar criteria? In the meantime I'll keep searching as well...- 1800yolk

Jitter: soundcard vs Spdif card
I just ordered a new gaming pc, but, it does not have digital out. I am going to either order this: https://www.amazon.com/SPDIF-Optical-Plate-Cable-Bracket/dp/B01LWNKIKN/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=spdif+card&qid=1614411203&sr=8-4#customerReviews or this...- 1800yolk

Any opinions / reviews on Gemtune APPJ PA1502A
Hi guys! I remember coming to this thread about 3 or 4 years ago and reading it a lot before purchasing this amp. I saw that it would be a great companion for my HE-400i headphones & Bimby DAC, and they definitely have been! Another thing that caught my eye was the fact that I could make changes...- 1800yolk

Review of Audioquest JitterBug - USB Data & Power Noise Filter.
I just got mine in the mail today, bought it with the goal of reducing my PC's processing noises. While it reduced them, it certainly didn't eliminate them. I'll hold onto it for when I can afford a Regen though. For now I'll use a SPDIF cable.- 1800yolk

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
This is great! I appreciate everyone's answers, b/c there are lots of points to consider. I found an interesting article about IMD that explains why the even order harmonics I was hoping to achieve aren't as natural and desirable as they're made out to be...- 1800yolk

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
I'm discussing digital releases that are 24/88 to begin with, obviously putting 16/44 in a 24/88 container would do nothing- 1800yolk

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Thank you for your reply! The 16/44 vs 24/44 would make no difference with the amp in regards to generating any harmonics that would influence the sound. I think there is a difference in 16/44 vs 24/88 though.- 1800yolk

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Thanks! This whole topic got me thinking, though... Say you're using a tube amp. Any and all audio that passes through it will generate "even order harmonics" (I just learned about this stuff lol), which become more prominent the more you crank your amp towards its limits. Those inaudible sounds...- 1800yolk

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
my main question from the OP: what does all that extra data end up being then? This is the mind boggling part, everything else makes sense to me.- 1800yolk

from your comments it appears you have never done electronics work like this? if this is the case, I would recommend you find someone who already has, since you wouldn't want to goof up your motherboard. Also, working with capacitors is dangerous because they need to be grounded first, and I'm...- 1800yolk

Schiit Fire and Save Matches! Bifrost Multibit is Here.
maybe a usb decrapifier like the schiit wyrd would help. hard to say though. I haven't noticed this myself yet, but i have been stuck using my basic tower speakers instead of my headphones cuz the cable is too short.- 1800yolk

if i hook my 400i to my receiver, it sounds like the sound got completely gutted compared to when using with my APPJ. Definitely sounds like they're not getting enough power- 1800yolk

the instrument separation threw me for a loop at first, just wasn't used to hearing my music like that. wasn't even sure i liked it. part of it was not being used to using headphones period, it's been about a year since my last pair broke :/ but i'm on board now- 1800yolk

i'm in the same boat, high gain w/ 400is = less sibilance and more balanced sound. Planars need all the juice they can get!- 1800yolk

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
i think i'm having this issue with the appj's stock tubes. well, i at least hope it's mostly the tubes. people report huge differences using different tubes, so I might as well give it a shot EDIT: switching to high gain mode seems to mitigate this quite a bit. strange. i would get more curious about switching to lossless audio before switching to multibit. Multibit will definitely sound better with MP3, but this is basically what you'd be doing: https://youtu.be/FnF2ROKtdMY- 1800yolk

the appj seems to be dead quiet, at least on low gain. Both amps are designed for low impedance, high current cans (so planar headphones are ideal matches) also, taking advice from one of the few people that got a faulty unit isn't a great idea, with the exception of taking into account the...- 1800yolk
