You will always get better performance from a dedicated headphone amplfier as the headphone output on most integrated amplifiers is a last minute, cheap addition, so having a dedicated quality separate headphone amplifier pays dividends. I have to be careful what I say as we are a retailer...

From our experience, you can get stunning results even if your budget is modest. You might even find a £1000 CD player plus headphone amp and/or DAC would be a good combination for the HD800, though obviously you'll get more out of them the more you spend.
