Most of the harshness comes from the incredible amount of hype these phones receive. While they have a pleasant sound for $7 they come with a slew of problems and I would have been much better off with something else plain and simple. IMO the tape mod only makes them worse, it ruins the charm...

I love my CAL! Small, yet over ear, sexy(shiny),super comfortable, and sound great. Look at how much everyone loved the d1001's and these are a better version of that. Coming from a pair of modded harx700's they are an improvement in every way and were under $80. If there are better out there...

I went with the CAL's they are around $100 normally and right now they were cheaper online. Also he said the 668's could be found for $35'ish and only found them for twice that.
