Try raising them from the desk and different placements. My A5 had the same problem until I placed them on speaker stands.

Since it's dorm I assume it'll be a fairly small space. Bigger speakers won't make much difference and may sound worse in this scenario. Get decent computer speakers like Soundsticks or MX5021. Audioengine A2 is good but the bass won't go deep because of its size so go for 2.1 if you want...

I guess your equipments and amplifications will also affect how HD650 sound. To me they sound very good with every music I play. Sometimes I find myself wanting more bass from it. So definitely to me they are not bass heavy.
