Connecting Headphone Amps to Display Monitors' 3.5 mm Audio Outputs
Dear all, Just hoping for some clarification in case I have been misunderstanding previous threads on this subject. Nowadays, most LCD monitors have a 3.5 mm audio line out (for connecting powered speakers) and/or a 3.5 mm headphone jack. My questions can be summarized as the following: Since...- GaijinMo

PS4's Compatibility with DACs/Amps
Thanks guys. I have looked into those HDMI splitting devices and they seem a little... sketchy. I was under the impression that HDMI transmits purely digital signals so the video/audio is either perfect or absent, but some of the reviewers are saying that video degradation is possible. I am...- GaijinMo

PS4's Compatibility with DACs/Amps
Hi all, Apologies for the stupid question, but I haven't bought a game console in about a decade. My set-up is still a PS3 on a CRT, mainly because I preferred the lower input lag for the style of games I was focusing on at that time. I plan to get a new monitor and a PS4 soon, but I don't know...- GaijinMo

Seeking IEM Recommendations for Metal - Bassy and <$150 USD
Greetings all. After using a pair of Beyer DT 770 PROs (which I bought for general home use, not specifically for metal) for a few years, I'm now in the market for a first pair of IEMs due to the need to go portable. I tend to listen to V-shaped or U-shaped headphones, so anything that's...- GaijinMo

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm for gaming?
The 80 ohm version is serviceable with some unamped sources, but I personally wouldn't want to use mine with a mobile device. They are quite large for outdoor use and I would worry that the velour pads would get dirty quickly from outdoor grime. Some people say that the "bloated bass" (the...- GaijinMo

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread
Thanks for the responses. I found an old thread from 2006 in which the person described what I assume to be the same problem: http://www.head-fi.org/t/193577/dt770-headband-making-clicking-noise Guess it's been happening for a while. As in his case, the issue didn't arise until after...- GaijinMo

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread
Just to follow up on this in case it misleads any prospective buyers, I did get adjusted to the Beyers and I'm now really enjoying them. One of the main culprits of the initial shock was probably the neutral upper bass. When compared to my old headphones, whose bass added some unnatural extra...- GaijinMo

DT770 Problem
You have the 32 ohm version, right? Does anyone think that switching to the velours could reduce the pressure? Maybe you'd lose some isolation and bass response, but you would still be able to use the same headphones. Replacement Beyerdynamic pads can be a little expensive, though. Personally...- GaijinMo

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread
To those who offered, thanks for the offers on the used pairs, but I'm sort of a fetishist for buying new. I did end up importing them from Amazon Germany and they arrived today. Buyer's remorse isn't an issue, but it is taking time to get adjusted. For context, I used V-shaped...- GaijinMo

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread
Even the pictures show the word "STUDIO" where it used to say "PRO" though, and the description sounds like it came straight from Beyerdynamic. By the way, are any other Canadians crying blood that these are now $269 in Canada? That's about a hundred more than they were two years ago. I get...- GaijinMo

M-Audio Q40 Impressions (long w/pics)
Hey guys. A few months ago I whined that M-Audio's $70 shipping fee to Canada was too steep. I have a family member in Florida right now, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows how long it usually takes M-Audio to ship to Miami with basic UPS ground shipping? I'd be having it delivered to a...- GaijinMo

Why there aren't many headphones with W shaped sound signature?
semantics isn't going to help your argument or anybody else's. besides, a lay definition may not be what is applied in audio circles. i always read that enthusiast is considered to be below audiophile, but whatever. you can replace the terms as you like.- GaijinMo

Why there aren't many headphones with W shaped sound signature?
Quote: Well, I think he's trying to say that an audiophile would ideally want to hear exactly what the audio engineer heard in the studio, whereas someone who enjoys music after modifying it to his or her liking may be an audio enthusiast, but not necessarily an audiophile. I don't like...- GaijinMo

Why do you people spend hundreds of dollars on headphones
How much somebody loves music isn't proportional to how much cash they're willing to drop on headphones. Can you confidently say that you love music more than someone who spends less money on audio equipment without even knowing that person? I know lots of people who breathe music and have much...- GaijinMo

M-Audio Q40 Impressions (long w/pics)
What's up with M-Audio's shipping fee of $68.69 to Canada for a pair of Q40s? Any Canadians know where else to get these? The answer for most people in other countries seems to be "from M-Audio's website," but shipping to Canada would bring the total above the price of more expensive headphones...- GaijinMo
