Why do people like bass so much?
I believe our fascination with bass has much to do with our instincts. Bass is powerful and seems large (it is, but being a visual society...). Reinforcing this is the common knowledge that big things make low sounds. Being able to associate ourselves with the big and powerful makes us think we...- DrewHulva

Is ANC possible without microphones?
I'm not too familiar with the specifics of ANC, but here are two ideas to think about. Calculate first reflection points in the room, and then use the time delay data to position your cancellation relative to the sound. See how well this works, and move from there. It will most definitely be...- DrewHulva

Step-up from ATH-M50
Buy a JDS labs cmoy It pairs VERY well with the M50. I live in downtown Chicago and have no problem carrying my classic and the cmoy banded together in a jacket pocket. I would recommend a line out as well. Not worth it in my opinion without one.- DrewHulva

Approve/Deny my Upcoming Purchases
What are you using the mic for? The 650s will leak quite a bit of sound. Depending upon the latency of the system and depth of the mix you could get comb filtering if it's just voice and dubs.- DrewHulva

Which is more comfortable: HD600 or DT770?
I think you'll be getting replies stating the 770s are more comfortable. I believe they are as well. Might be worth a try if you have the cash around the holidays.- DrewHulva

First time headphone buyer! Sennheiser HD 600, HD 650, AKG K701?
I would cross the HD 500 from your list, unless you meant the 600. It doesn't compare to the others you've listed. What soundcard do you have and what amp are you looking to get? EDIT: Read the title. Oops.- DrewHulva

Are the shure srh940's a good choice for music producer?
Sometimes analytical headphones are not the most rewarding to listen to for enjoyment. Especially on poorly mastered albums. You will notice the mistakes and it will bother you. For instance, on Say Anything's new album "Anarchy, My Dear" there is 60 cycle hum at the beginning of one of one of...- DrewHulva

Technics SL-D5... Yeah that's an original pressing of Buddha by Blink-182. College in Chicago is much more bearable with all of my childhood memories on vinyl. Any other dorm setups?- DrewHulva

Budget Cartridge For Technics SL-D5
I've been playing my Technics SL-D5 with what looks like the stock cartridge for awhile now with a generic replacement needle to hold me over until I found the right cartridge. My research tell me that choosing a cartridge is difficult due to the matching of tonearm weight, plinth, etc. My...- DrewHulva

Headphones for mixing/mastering and ipod use
How much are we looking at for the apogee combo? Also, what would the advantages of buying the duet instead of something else? Thanks for all the information so far. School has kept me quite busy and I'm active on Ultimate-Guitar as well.- DrewHulva

Headphones for mixing/mastering and ipod use
I'm buying headphones for college, and I'd like to buy a pair that will last me my first few years. I'll be going for Audio Production, so I'd assume that headphones would be an integral part. I began looking at noise canceling headphones due to the fact that I really loved the serenity of the...- DrewHulva
