Headphone Bar in Vancouver sells the 400i for $549 and 560 for $949. Their service is great - they replaced my FiiO E17/E9K combination with no questions when it acted up after a year of use. The present exchange rate just makes US purchases hard to justify... I hope to get my 400i this spring...

I'm driving Q701's with a FiiO E17/E09K combination sourced from Amarra 3 plus sQ equalization, and am very satisfied. No problem at all with damping, even with the 3:1 impedance ratio. Amarra sQ gives the bass bump and treble shelf that makes them sound right for me, and I love its user...

Restarting this very old thread... I have been using Amara's sQ equalization with my Q701's, and am very pleased both with the results (distortion-free) and the UI. Anyone else comment?

Reviving this old thread... Another advantage of the E17 is the balance control - I have hearing loss on one side, and not many portable amps allow me to adjust for this. The preamp out to my E09K is adjusted as well. I'm happy! :o

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the new Sciit Fulla will drive the HE-401i adequately? Schiit claims it will output 300mw into 32Ohms, is this enough?

Emphasize the "should" in Herueyes' suggestion... iOS' music player doesn't work well with large iTunes libraries, if at all. I use FileBrowser by Stratospherix to play my 16,000 track library on the iPad. Maybe Apple has fixed this in iOS 8, but I'm not counting on it.

I often use phones and speakers simultaneously. I can get the room ambience from the speakers plus the clarity and distinct localization of the phones. However, I'm doing this with separate volume control of the two so I can find a p,easing balance. This wouldn't work as well with the one...
