Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Quote: Yes correct, thumbs in the centre and considerable downward pressure, the main stay wire running through the spine of the headband is very thick.

Place your thumbs in the inside  of the band centrally and exert considerable downward pressure, do not be afraid to give it plenty of grunt, you won,t hurt them, reverse the procedure if required.

Quote: 100% agree, very cheap , this little adhesive cushion is really easy to apply and makes a considerable difference comfort wise, the cans seem to "sit" more securely also.

Soundstage and depth on the LCDs is unrivalled  in my opinion, however the T50RPs mids and imaging match the LCDs and thats where the music is for me.

Quote: My experience is that a neutral solid state amp works best, I have tried them with tube amps and a tube hybrid, they are both very good but detail and the magical 3D imaging is a couple of clicks better with S/S. I would not class them as power hungry cans, though a decent amp...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Agree with all of the above, I have some vintage kit and a very good home set-up, however when I have the T50s hooked up to my imod and Stepdance I still get goosebumps and smile to myself at the quality the T50s bring to the table. The vocals and mid-range are just astounding, heck they match...

BOSE.....why does it get laughed at in the audiophile community? Are the products really that bad???

I have the Bose QC15 headphones, ultra comfortable amped out of an imod they remain my favourite portable headphones, nothing else comes close in terms of comfort and isolation.

TTVJ or Pico Slim......? IP4S -> Ultrasone Pro 900

Excellent choice, I have the original stepdance and its the best portable amp I have heard, far better than the pico slim and TTVJ, along with the lisa and a couple of Ray Samuels amps its right up there with the very best. Jan Meier is a nice chap and provides an excellent service, enjoy...

Quote: The HD600s are a nice set of cans and sweet sounding, I  have the 650s and previously the 600s, the T50RPs are superior in all aspects, my 650s are rarely used now.

Over-damping is causing the sound congestion imo, dynamat, plastacine and paxmate is way over the top, dynamat is nasty stuff though serves a purpose when used with cotton wool to avoid reflections. I Markl modded my sons Denon 5000 with dynamat and then added cotton wool, the net effect was...

I mean the white lint attached to the back of the driver not the external black felt, yes it is opaque and serves as a dust cover for the driver.   Quote:

No, the white lint material is intact, its just there to protect bits from getting into the driver imo, the felt I used was 1/16 thick and best described as neither stiff nor floppy but high quality and of the inter-woven type similar to whats on the front of the driver. Never had any sound...

Similar, the Faust mod also, my point is , and this is my personal conclusion after trying out many configurations the starting point is to add the felt to the back of the driver on top of the white lint material. Then add the mass to the cup and have a listen, other pad variations can improve...
