Another favourite of mine, from my college days, is the Irish singer, Mary Coughlan:
Actually, none of these Youtube clips do Coughlan justice - I highly recommend her greatest hits compilation 'Love Me or Leave Me' - it's a decent album.
If you like a powerful voice, Beth Hart is a contemporary singer who's collaborated a bit with respected blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa. I find her rather intimidating, to be frank, but she does have a decent voice, all the same:
Going back to the Irish side of things, Dolores Keane is a nice singer - she used to sing in De Dannan, a group that other well-known Irish singers such as Maura O'Connell & Mary Black also sang with at various times:
I have one of Laura Viers' albums - can't recall the name, but my favourite track on the album is 'Snowcamping'. I first heard her on Bob Harris' show, on BBC Radio 2 a few years ago.
