iFi should have charged it for us
redface.gif
is this how you great your consumer and fans?! You design something so wonderful and challenged us to not touch it for the first 24 hours?

Don't take this too serious please

Man... If only there is wifi charging. Put those packaging on top of wireless charging panel and charge away! When it's sailing in the middle of sea, it can charge :D

Oh.... Maybe we can have wireless charging for mini iDSD in the future if iFi plans to have battery in it xD

Noooo, the mini iDSD will be sitting on a desk! no wireless charging just a plain old power cord.

(Wireless charging sounds like a microwave in my head already. I am also against driverless cars)

Hi all,

The micro iDSD is a "shoe-box" chassis.

It really is a 100% desktop/main system design.

Please see renders on the micro iDSD thread!

Also please include a free pair of Sennheiser HD800 in every box, Thanks.
(;

Yes  while waiting for the Micro iDSD to burn in for 24 hours, we need something to accompany us :D

Don't take it too seriously (again), we are perfectly fine with the 24 hours charging so as long as the products last us well. No worries iFi. We can enjoy looking at the beauty of the chassis for 24 hours meanwhile :D

Can the iDSD micro replace a desktop DAC/amp, SQ wise?

Hi,

As we always say, try it for yourself - you be the judge.

Not our place to say - but we dont have any qualms your trying it against other combinations out there!

Thanks.

Well, that's how I plan to use it...but I'm still scratching my head regarding the lack of a Type-B USB input.  Rationalization for that choice was likely covered earlier in this thread, but I'm not concerned enough to go searching the previous 98 pages.  I just don't like the idea of having to use an adapter with the Gemini or Audioquest Diamond USB cables...even if I would not be able to hear the difference (due in part to the integrated iPurifier, etc.)

Otherwise, I expect the micro iDSD to put my Wired4Sound DAC2 on notice in the big rig.  :)

The nano has a USB3.0 type B input which allows either a USB2.0 or a USB3.0 type B cable. But you can not use a USB3.0 cable that has a type B jack into a device that has a USB2.0 type B only socket as it will not fit. My guess that with the micro IFI feels it is more important to have a universal CCK/OTG USB port instead.

The rationalization was that this is designed as a robust transportable device (50% portable, 50% desktop) with performance that can rival desktop sized gear, but also still be used on the go with Apple and Android devices. If you want to find a desktop sized replacement where you can use fancy cables, you are likely better served with the iDSD Mini which will be a desktop sized form factor. That's not coming out until the end of the year, so in the mean time, an adapter will likely have to do.

Hi,

We rec'd this email from a customer:

In a recent post on head-fi.org, iFi Audio stated the following:

"Also, different USB cables are able to carry different amounts of current. We recommend the USB 3.0 cable (supplied in the micro iDSD) for fastest recharging."

Does the Gemini Cable meet the USB 3.0 spec for fastest recharging as mentioned above?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Our reply is that we have tested with higher-power chargers such as the iUSB Power and some commercial chargers.

Gemini and Mercury do very well in this area, as well as anything else we tested, allowing around 1A charge current, as does the USB 3.0 cable we include.

By comparison many of the USB 2.0 cables we tested had enough resistance (read: thin wires) to drop charge current to < 500mA and some were so bad, charge current was < 100mA (meaning > 48 hours for a full charge!).
