Read another erji.net member commented that the C4 + PB2 + DB2 stack sounds better than DX100 but didn't explain further in what way. Think that guy totally missed the point when he posted the comment - DX100 offers fantastic sound without all that bulk and cables. Of course, if you are using hard-to-drive full-sized headphone then amp may be necessary.

I will have the DX100 in mid-March and will be able to test it against the iPod Touch + (IEM SD connector)  + HP-P1 + (Sys.Concepts Optical connector) + DB2 + (IEM SD connector) + SR-71B + (IEM SD connector) + either the Beyer DT1350 or Senn HE 25-1 both re-cabled using Moon Audio IEM SD cables using female mini-XLR connectors.  I think the balanced sound of the SR-71B may give the sound different imaging but is this better sound than the single ended DX100 by itself?   There will be many options to test and lots of fun doing so with all my portable options at hand now.  I even have the ALO Continental V2 with the ALO Cricket LOD that I can bring to the contest.  As I said I will be having lots of fun playing with these toys.  Both these headphones have impedance around 70-80 ohms so they will fit well with the DX100 for sensitivity.

I guess I could put some pictures up of all this...but I want to wait till the DX100 comes.

Would be great if you could also add in a custom iem into the equation. I am more interested in how all the setups work for headphones that don't really require great amping power (i.e., custom iems, audio technicas, denons, etc)

I'm very eagerly awaiting your impressions - my Merlins are on their way and I'm trying to allocate the funds for a Dx100...

Hmmm...I will not say that when I listen to "King of Pop" Michael Jackson's songs or Beatles's Rock & Roll music that I'm going to use 2 yen worth earplug. Especially in a situation when someone loves Rock & Pop's and try to find a better way to listen, you responded to it with such kind of words.

In the Rock & Pop's industries, people are using very high end recording equipment to process the music. It is everyone's preference whether you like it or not. You just have to respect to different people's choice. Stax SR-009 was not built only for one person's preference.

If I said to you" I listen to my Rock & Pop's with Stax SR-009 and SRM-727 and I enjoyed it very much. But honestly, I don't like classic music and if I listen to those classic music which you like most, Hmmm...I just simply use my 2 yen earplug!"...............You probably won't like to here of it.

If I don't like people's skin color, I will never say it on his face.
If I don't like people's religion, I will never say it on his face.
If I don't agree with someone's political view of point, I will not argue with him in a public domain.
I owned a Mercedes Benz(300SEL) but I don't mind if people use the same model as a Taxi.

I think you may have misinterpreted my post. I'm just giving my opinion of what my thoughts are about the SR-009 w.r.t. rock & pop or hip hop, etc. I don't think my post has in anyway "disrespected" anyone's preferences (including yours) or impose my opinions onto others but merely to share.

The Fostex HP-P1 connects with the iPod Touch and has an optical out into the DB2.

Check out these pictures of the setup: http://s274.photobucket.com/albums/jj243/slwiser/Balanced%20SR-71B%20DB2%20HP-P1%20iPod%20Touch/

I have the pigtails for both single ended (coming out of the Fostex) and the balanced pigtail coming out and connected to the HD25 balanced.

The Sys.Concept optical cable is seen coming out of the Fostex.

The Moon Audio IEM Silver Dragons are seen elsewhere:

Coming out of the iPod Touch into the Fostex, coming out of the Fostex singled ended open connection using the Switchcraft mini-XLR female.

The connection between the DB2 and RSA SR-71B is also a Moon Audio IEM Silver Dragon using the appropriate end connections.

Coming out of the RSA SR-71B balanced connected to the Senn HD25.

I anticipate the DX100 will be much simpler.  I think the DX100 is of a similar size to the Fostex maybe a quarter inch shorter.

OK, It was just that the way you had put it in the previous post it looked like you were connecting the Touch via optical to the HP-P1 and I couldn't see how that was possible

I just went back and check my wording. I did have the Sys.Concept cable misplaced in the line-up. This has been edited to correct the line-up.

For carry as a true portable I can go light just using the Fostex and iPod with headphone which will be essentially the size of the DX100.  The iPod Touch is so thin it does not take up any space, it is just the cable that will be extra for the connection between those devices.  I also can go with the ALO Continental from the iPod Touch using the ALO Cricket. This is a very tight configuration.

I mostly use this at work for background music so that I can concentrate better.

As I said above it will be fun comparing all these toys once I get the DX100.

BTW:  for those of you who already have the DX100 check this thread out and give your opinion of the ability of the DX100 to drive the HE500 fro Hifiman.

i walk 2.5 hrs a day and 30 mins on train with a 40 pound of gear in my backpack also in my case i shoot baskets with my player so I try not to have weight or not more then i already have. You Ipod has no power well very little and the Cowon I use has twice the power of the Ipod and the dx100 has a lot more even more than many portable amps.iBasso rote this: "The DX100 has much more output power than your D2. Where your D2 is 74mW at 16ohm, the DX100 has more than 1000mW at 16ohm. The output power of the DX100 is even higher than our P4."
