Changes at Beyerdynamic

I interpretted Jan's post to mean that the DT880 is a completely new headphone that only borrow's the legacy of the old DT880 in name. I rather hope this was correct. My hope is that this will be better than the DT931 which I currently believe to be Beyerdynamic's best headphone (and I think they believe this too even though many Head-Fi'ers don't agree).

Hey, I thought I was going to be done with headphone equipment, settling on only the HD600's and Etymotics. Now this has caught my interest, since I do miss some of the bass power from the DT770 Pro's for rock music.

Read the pdf that Flasken posted a link to. They write about the 'legendary' dt880.

That's a different product catalogue for sure. I kind of like it.

Exactly :)

The representative also told me that the new DT770 and DT990 are sonically very similar to the PRO versions. Only pressure has been reduced and they have a slightly more elegant look. Prices will be higher than the PRO series though.

Cheers,

Jan

Quite a catalog, I like it too

But from the catalog you wouldn't think Beyer thinks the DT931 is their best headphone.

In fact my impression of Beyer sof far is that I have no idea which headphones they consider top of the line and which are low-end... the DT250, 770 and 831 seem to be on the level both in reputation and price; the 990 judging by its no. can only be considered high end. (but apparently not by its price tag) It seems there's a clear hierachy from 131, 231, 531, 831 to 931 but I've been hearing many good things about 531 recently while the 831 has always been considered somewhat thin and the 931 a bit too bright...

In case you've missed the 40 or so threads on the subject, the 931 isn't considered by most to be too bright with a 120ohm output impedance.

I think a great additional sales action would be simply for the new 880s's themselves, I expect quite a few of us here would like to grab a pair.

I think Beyer are aware that what's considered good sound by one person isn't always considered good by another, so they price their headphones around a different/different/different model rather than good/better/best.

I'd say the build quality of the DT531 is enough to justify a lower cost than the DT770pro, but personally I prefer the sound of the 531 and I'm more than happy to be careful not to break them

IMHO it's a good thing, it means you don't get too many people blindly charging in wanting the "OMG l337 BEST WINNAR" headphone

There's plenty of people out there with HD600s or K501s running off sub-par equipment because the headphones are" teh best" and they didn't even consider the fact that there might be headphones out there that suit their needs better and cost less

I hope you fellas understand that Jan can't discuss sales actions in any of the General Forums (this one included). If he's going to have a sales action on it, it'll probably be posted in Mall-Fi.

We can still make suggestions, right?

My comment, and I would think the other one to Jan were clearly only to provide inspiration for prospective sales actions. I didnt expect any actual comment in this forum. As Kelly noted, it certainly cant hurt to make sugggestions.
