Crossfeed: software vs hardware
It seems that feeding a bit of one channel to another is not that sophisticated and should be achievable in software without audible artifacts. Is there anything about hardware based crossfeeds that make them better than software based crossfeeds? When building crossfeeds, is there anything you...- gevorg

What is "digitis"?
The word "digitis" is commonly spread around audiophile circles, and many manufacturers proudly claim that their products posses no such thing, but what exactly is "digitis"? Can it be measured? Does it have certain properties that can be clearly defined and recreated? Does it relate to...- gevorg

How to quantify sound quality of equipment?
It is very difficult to describe sound quality, let alone quantify it, since everyone has their own preferences such as EQ, coloration, etc. Lets start with the baseline pro audio industry standard, the "neutral" or "monitor" sound, which is the preference of many audiophiles too. That is, to...- gevorg

Share your head-fi journey!
Most of us have our current systems in profiles and signatures, but it also quite interesting to look at the progression of system changes over time. Its probably too tedious to list all the equipment you've ever had, so just share the ones you kept for the long term. Here is my journey...- gevorg

Jitter Test: Can you hear it? (downloadable samples)
Folks at HDD Audio created several test files that contain various levels of jitter: 0ns, 3ns, 10ns, 30ns, and 100ns. As a point of reference, most PCM270x implementations have around 1ns of jitter, and EMU 0404 USB has about 0.5ns of jitter. Is jitter audible? The jitter test 2. | Welcome to...- gevorg

Try this if you're having random pops/clicks with your USB audio device
If anyone is having hardware problems with USB audio such as random pops/clicks, I suggest to try a dedicated USB PCI add-on card for your USB audio device. Make sure that there are no IRQ conflicts/sharing on that PCI slot. It seems the USB cards with NEC based chipsets are more stable/faster...- gevorg

DAC/Amp + native USB for ~$500? Between EMU 0404 USB and Benchmark DAC1
I'm looking for a DAC/Amp combo that also has a native USB input (i.e. no internal USB to S/PDIF conversion). I currently use EMU 0404 USB for this purpose, and consider it an entry-level audiophile system. The Benchmark DAC1 is a high-end system. Is there a DAC/Amp/nativeUSB combo that...- gevorg

K1000 recable - Balance?
Well, I guess its already hardwire recable time for me, but I can't decide which cable is right.
