M-Audio BX5a vs Audioengine A5 short review
hey, thanks again for the info...are the adjustable crossovers found on studio subs, soundcard software, and other monitors (sadly bx5as don't have any) all doing the same thing? i.e. my cards the basic xonar dx but it has an "lfe crossover frequency" menu adjustable from 50-250hz. Say i get a...- Duperman

Best way to change my music bit rate?
if you use windows like me hold shift while opening itunes and it'll ask you to choose or create new library, you can create a new library and add all the lossless files from your original library (uncheck "copy files to itunes media folder" under preferences or it'll create duplicates), then...- Duperman

M-Audio BX5a vs Audioengine A5 short review
hi there and thanks for the review, i was in the same boat awhile back deciding between the two. i ended up getting bx5a deluxe b/c it was more reasonably price over here. i've had it a couple months now and i guess you reaffirmed my feelings, the bass is pretty weak on the bx5a and the...- Duperman

Sub to Compliment Audioengine A5s
No I don't touch the controls on the monitors...too much hassle, I leave them @ 1/4th volume and just adjust through the media player or through windows. What about using vdr12s as example- looking at its manual I see it has 2 rca line input and outputs...- Duperman

Sub to Compliment Audioengine A5s
Hmm, the back of the monitors relatively barebones. Just an xlr and trs inputs, a volume knob, and power button. Yeah uh oh they're separately volume controlled, powered, and connected- I had to scavenge for a y cable to 1/8" to hook them to my computer. Theres no sub out option... does this...- Duperman

Sub to Compliment Audioengine A5s
sorry if I'm hijacking your thread i'm also a bigtime noob and am a little confused on how to hook up these subs to my computer stereo speakers. for example the krk and m-audio subwoofer manuals show them having both 1/4inch inputs/outputs, which means i can connect my bx5as to them and then...- Duperman

Sub to Compliment Audioengine A5s
heyy I was going to open a related thread but then I saw yours, you saw the psw111 for 150 @ futureshop too? this one right? Future Shop: Audio: Home Speakers: Polk Audio 8" Subwoofer (PSW111) I think I'm just going to order it, I don't have a fantastic setup and it's just to give my bx5a...- Duperman

Need specific help - Upgrading from M-Audio AV40
The first thing I'd do is buy a discrete sound card and re-download/rip lossless files if you haven't done that yet. I use the av40s bigger brothers, the bx5a deluxe, and I like them a lot but they're very soft on bass and harsh on trebles, I had to eq them. If you don't want audioengine a5s...- Duperman

Windows 7?
Yeah I think I'll make the switch on the weekend. Do you think it'd be a jerk move to buy an external hdd just to transfer files and then return it when I'm done? And nah I can't keep it, I dropped a hd 2-3 inches at most one time and all the files were corrupted, bad experience. I'm sort of...- Duperman

which is better? flac or wav?
What do you guys think about having your entire library in alac? The more I'm converting the more I feel like this is going to be a mistake if apple dies off, I just realized all the files are separated into folders so it might be a pain convert back- I can't seem to highlight all the folders...- Duperman

I've been out of touch with the computer news and forgot that windows 7's been out for a couple months now. ^^ Are there any benefits or drawbacks to upgrading? Audio-wise is there any sound difference =/ and have you guys had any driver issues or software that hasn't worked. Well I only use...- Duperman

Itunes - Problems with ripping.....
Hehe Ispent the last few days converting couple hundreds worth of flac albums to alac. Perhaps it's counter-intuitive to go from a free format to apple's proprietary, but whatever, I got a new ipod classic and its kinda nice carrying it around. I also really like itunes. I suppose I could always...- Duperman

iTunes Genius Feature not working
how exactly does genius work anyway? has apple disclosed this? i'll admit sometimes i was surprised songs in my playlist went really well together, but sometimes it throws in an oddball as well. For the most part though the songs in the same playlist are under the same genre, spiffy.- Duperman

What is the default ripping bitrate when first using iTunes?
As a follow up i've been using dbpoweramp to convert flac to alac [thanks! works great] but I read some people had compatibility issues playing the dbpoweramp's alac files on their actual ipod? Now i won't have mine for a week so I can't test yet but now i'm not sure if i should be...- Duperman

Studio monitors for PC use?
I use m-audio bx5as and i like them a lot... they were within my budget and sound pretty nice and detailed but.. I didn't want to create a separate thread for this but how do you guys feel about equalizers? The bx5a deluxe are suppose to improve bass over the original but it still seems...- Duperman

would a logitech z-2300 setup benefit from a cheap (>$80) soundcard?
the xonar dx and it makes a big difference for my z2300s as well. for 80-90$ i think it's highly worth it, especially since it'll be there should you want to upgrade to better speakers down the road.- Duperman

Xonar Essence STX: Sneak Peek!
Is this STX currently the best pci-e card for 2 channel sound? It's +100$ more than the DX at my local shop. is it more targeted for the headphone amp? I got my DX working btw don't know if the stx would sound even better, my speakers are the bx5a. edit: on 2nd thought i'm getting ahead...- Duperman
