Something like foobar for tagging on Mac
I love the title formatting tagging capabilities in foobar. I use it a lot for fixing tags on new rips. However my main library is on a Mac and I'd love to be able to retag some of it with something with the capabilities of foobar. Does such a thing exist?- scompton

Cowboy Junkies in concert
I saw the Cowboy Junkies tonight. It was a great concert especially if you like the electric stuff. They did 3 or 4 acoustic and the rest was electric. At the end of the concert, Margo mentioned that if you subscribe to their email list you get 3 free songs. I did it and it's a big zip file... -

I heard on the radio this morning that pianist François-Frédéric Guy is doing 9 recitals in 10 days and will be playing all 32 of Beethoven's piano sonatas. My only problem is which to see. My wife won't be happy if I see all of them It's $20 per show, $40 for 3, $100 for all 9. It's at La... -
Testing solder joints
I'm starting to build a SOHA II and the instructions on cavalliaudio.com says to visually inspect every joint for bidges or cold joints. I understand what a bridge is, but how do you tell if you have a cold joint? Also, Tomb, on a thread about mistakes building B22s, mentioned he tests every...- scompton

Jade Warrior
I recently bought a Jade Warrior LP at a thrift store and the music is fantastic. It's a shame that the LP is in bad condition and their CDs are import only and mostly OOP. The ablum I bought is Wave. If it's typical of their music, they could be one of my favorite prog rock bands -

Dual 1219 and general TT questions
I recently got my Dual repair and refurbished by fixmydual.com and I have a couple of questions. I have a Shure V15 Type II. Does playing seriously scratched records damage the stylus? I know I have to thoroughly clean the crudy records, but some of them are scratched as well. I remember...- scompton

Reducing gain in an integrated amp
I have an NAD 3155 and it has too much gain for me. I rarely use more than the first 30 degrees of pot and for most of my headphones, just the first 15 degrees. It's really hard to make fine adjustments. It has a preout and main in and I assume I can make a cable with resistors to go between...- scompton

DT 831 repair
Does anyone know how to take apart a DT831? I have one dead side and I want to see if it's the cable or the driver but I can't see how to get them apart. I got one pad off but it was very difficult to do that and there's no way I'll get it back on the way it was.- scompton

K-Mart Electrostatic Headphones
When the K-Mart stats showed up on eBay, I couldn't resist. I just can't imagine K-Mart selling high end headphones. Actually, I can't imagine K-Mart selling high end anything, let alone headphones These are SR-3 clones with a self biasing adapter. The wiring of the adapter seems odd to me...- scompton

I need a lo-fi recommendation
My wife has decided she wants a PDP and IEMs or a canal phone for her commute on the DC metro. She's hard of hearing. Her hearing drops to zero at about 80Hz, so fidelity is not required. Lots of bass is what she needs. Can anyone recommend something with awful, bloated bass. This is a...- scompton

Great Conductors of the 20th Century: Bruno Walter
I just got this 2 disc set and I'm listening to it right now. I really like it. I'm not a great judge of how well pieces are being played, but these versions are very pleasant. And the sound quality is remarkable for these historical recordings. Two pieces are remastered from shellacs. There's a... -

Klipsch and Shure IEMs to demo in the airport.
kramer5150 had a thread last year on demoing Shures at Brookstones at an airport. Every since, I've looked at Brookstones at the airport to see if they had them. Tuesday I had a flight out of DC National. I got there early enough to check out Brookstones. They had them, but I needed a coffee...- scompton

Classical music downloads for 1 €
I found this web site the other day that sells out of copyright classical recordings for 1 € per work. An entire opera is considered one work. It's 192 kbps MP3 with no DRM. It looks like a pretty good deal, although I would prefer lossless. I've been browsing a little and I've seen a few things...
