RPG, Ive read a lot of your posts. This thread to me screams xb500, most people who specify that the phone needs to be "bass heavy" would probably like the xb500. You should get 'em to read your posts about them, youve got some pretty nice stuff about EQ'ing them to balance them out a bit...

I have done some research and i have seen most recommend the 500s over the 700s. What the 500s lack in instrument separation and to some degree soundstage, they make up for it with a more in-your-face sound signature.

look, these things are tough. It takes a rhino standing on these things to even get a dent, but if you're going for ultimate protection, why not stuff 'em in a used Senn box or any other high end box. I am talking about the fancy boxes that come with the high end phones, and are often sold...

My vote is on the 700s as well, I have 2000+ hours of mine and I literally only stopped listening to them because I was absurdly rough with them and the finally broke, which was a challenge in itself. Fantastic sound, and only shares the throne with the superlux 668s for the under $50 category...

Hey, uhh I am sort of new and excited to this field of Audiology, I just bought these 700's, and I was wondering: What do I need to do to get the best sound out of them? I have a 5th gen Ipod, and a computer without a sound card... I don't think I will buy an amp unless its a big deal, well...
