Do woods make a big difference on the Verite? I have the Silkwood. At times I find them warm and others especially with metal, dark sounding using the Verite pads. Would different pads help also?

Pads make a big difference, more so than wood choice. As a Friend once said to me, if the transducer/driver is the band, the earpads are the venue in which they play. There is a big sound difference between playing in a concert hall vs a stadium.

Are there different pads I should try besides the Verite and universe?

If you find any of the leather pads dark sounding probably worth trying the Unvierse Suede perf IMHO.

Would there be any Verite suede pads? I prefer the more precise sound of the Verite pads over the Universe pads.

I have the universe sueded pads, and I find that compared to the lambskin universe it is definitely airier up top. I can't use the lambskin unis because they are just too dark.

But compared to the stock Vérité pad, the suede uni provides a little extra soundstage width / spacing and an upper treble boost, but less lower center treble. It doesn't sound as clear, less aggressive and forward overall. I like both of these, but lean towards the stock Vérité more of the time because I feel like I'm missing something when quickly comparing to the suede universes.

I tried an experiment, I took the pads completely off and just rested the cups on my ears. The high frequencies of course increased, so I know the drivers are capable of them. Its just finding the right pads that let a lot of those highs through without loss of focus.

After assembly comes quality check/control "QC" then they ship after that. I am also waiting for my Verite to ship, I've been refreshing the sheet every hr :)
