Changing pads on my 2020 VO yesterday, I noticed a slight coating (some grayish looking stuff) on the shiny drivers. They didn’t look like that out of the box.
Not much but enough to make me wonder: would you consider cleaning the drivers?
I would say touching the drivers is not a good idea. I'd recommend you contacting ZMF support and sending them some photos

Yeah, I think sending photos to ZMF support is the best starting point. In the past, Zach has helped walk folks through the best way to clean them without sending them in, but photos are the right starting point to see what the right path is.

Has anyone experienced Caldera Ultra Perforated Suede pads on Verite?
Yes, to me they really let the Verite shine. I was a Universe Suede person for years but these just sound much more open though tonally similar. They've become my default pad on the Atrium & Aeolus too. They've given new life to all 3 models for me.

Oh, thanks for sharing that. It's hard to find any opinion about Caldera Ultra Perforated Suede. They are propably not so known. I'm also big fan of Universe pads and looking for just little bit more bass without loosing that wonderfull mix of tonality and space which Universe have.

Ahh - Sorry. I failed to see you were asking about the suede pads. I was referring to feedback on the lambskin UP. I’m very curious about these myself :)

I started with Uni Suede because I usually like the feel of suede better. Once I put the Lamb UP on the VO my mind was changed. I thought I would like the Suede UP even better, but I was wrong. Maybe it was just too much of a good thing. For some reason it just didn’t click for me on the VO; the space and feel were off. For the Aeolus my preference is reversed - I like the Suede UP even better than the Lamb UP (which is also great). Every once in a while I think it’s extravagant to have 10 different kinds of pads, but they all do something different even if every pad doesn’t work with every headphone. And it can also change depending on the amp.
You should probably just try them for yourself.

After an hour or so of fairly loud funk, I cycled things down to my favorite manouche guitarist, Adrien Moignard, via the VO on the Icon Audio HP8. The VO excels at louder beat-heavy genres as well as smaller scale, lower volume music. The VO remains my favorite dynamic driver headphone ever:

Yes, you are right. Best thing is to try ourselve. It amazing to have such simple option to tweak sound. Without buying new amp or DAC...

Extremely happy new Verite owner here. I bought this beautiful set at Axpona after trialing the Atrium Open and Caldera (for fun, out of price range). I’m now in the market for an amp to replace me Woo Audio WA7tp. Any recommendations on an amp and Dac that pair well? Sub 3K total cost? I suppose I could use the WA7 or my Dacmini as a DAC in the short term to increase budget a bit…

Check out the ZMF amp thread, but at that budget you’re going to get more than a few recommendations for an Icon Audio HP8 Signature Model.
