ZMF Verite Open

The Utopia is more detailed, slams a bit harder than the Verite, and there is a little more sparkle on the top-end.

The Verite sounds much more organic than the Utopia, but EDM is as non-organic as music gets.
that's right... VO is more even across the range and that's the one I go for big symphonies and chorals.... the 3D stage, the power from all the instruments is addictive

Agreed. The VO easily replaced my HD800 for orchestral music.

Has anyone tried Auteur perf pads with the VO? I ahve used just about every single universe perf pads (suede, lamb, hybrid) and settled with the perf lambs. But i was wondering of anyone used the Auteur pads. I did not like the Verite and Be2 pads.

from what I heard, HD800 has ultra wide stage but lacks depth, is that true?
That would be one way to put it. It certainly puts the music outside of your head in a mostly good way, the problem is that it lacks substance in the low end.

Even though it will go low (especially with EQ), it feels very diffuse and almost too airy. For gaming or watching TV, this is OK and I think it excels at those two things. For listening to music, it's good, but if you a/b test it against the VO...then you hear the short-comings of the HD800.

I am a big fan of the VO. Nevertheless for classical orchestra music the HD 800s is still my first choice. It gives me the feeling of sitting in a concert hall instead of standing at the position of the conductor in the centre of the orchestra. I compensate the weak points of the HD 800s with some EQ. Both HP work best with my Feliks Euforia with FAW Noir Hybrid HPC cable.

MAHLER Symphony No. 2 ADAM FISCHER Tünde Szabóki | Nadine Weissmann Düsseldorfer Symphoniker is my actual favourite recording. Excellent live recording with concert hall feeling. Happy listening :L3000:

Can't say I blame you, even though I prefer the VO. And I agree 100% with how the HD800 puts you in the best seat in the house.

I do LOVE the HD800 for gaming and movies. It really makes the sound melt away and the soundstage is awesome when something is panning across the headphone or when a sound is far away.

When I listen too the HD800 I have a pretty aggressive EQ from my Schitt Loki combined with the warmth from my custom tube amp by @Paladin79.

That´s the big thing to own several different headphones, you can choose according to your preference and your mood.
Happy listening :L3000:

Is that a GE 5998A? Are those good tubes?
Yes to both questions. Recently a half dozen of us bought some to try out and overall reactions were quite good. Not Tung Sol 5998 level on high frequencies but excellent bass and mids. Plenty of NOS for about $47.95.

For me, I look to the VO when I want to FEEL the intensity of the music; to the HD800S when I want to hear the airy detail (read: "treble").
