Do you recommend putting some thread lock on these, or is it typically unnecessary? Same question with the adjustment screws that hold the rods in place.
I think Zach has recommended VC3 before in the past over Loctite blue. I recommend it as well. I holds up extremely well against vibration and force.

Loctite is OK if you have aluminum, but it will mess up your finish if you slip. The VC3 cleans up easier, and won't mess up the finish as much (still don't get it on the finish.)

If you have magnesium, absolutely do not use the Loctite, it will ruin the finish on the mag chassis every time.

Good to know. Does this also apply to the gel version of Loctite/Permatex blue?

I haven't tried those so maybe I'll grab some and do a test!

Took a look at the ZMF Wood Gallery to enjoy some of the previous offerings. Love the added descriptions and how many runs they have done. @zach915m any plans to add the stabilized/epoxy to the wood gallery? I enjoy just looking at them!

Not exactly, but I had an Ironwood VO and now have a Blackwood VC. I didn't A/B so take my opinions with a grain of salt.

They're more alike than different (which is a testament to the closed-back's stellar design).

I've had some DMs with others on this topic too. The gist I've personally got out of it is that I generally prefer less reverb/resonance, and so I should stick to more dense woods.

That being said, it seems like many people prefer the VO with a a less dense wood. Maybe due to the driver being so fast and dynamic on top of an open-back design, having a little bit more of that ZMF reverb from the cups may increase enjoyment on the VO. I do recall the VO being incredibly fast sounding. Like, planar speed.

VC vs VO -- generally seems like you get a bit more sub bass rumble and more mids presence in the VC, but the VO has more mid-bass punch and a slightly more airy and open sound (of course). I also don't think my Blackwood VC is as fast as the Ironwood VO.

Good decision IMO. I found the magnesium indeed prone to wear and chose to replace it, with the kind help of Zach & Bevin, with an aluminum version. Slightly heavier, but more durable with regard to the paint not coming off (because there is no paint to come off :) )
I also want to change to aluminum from my current very chipped magnesium. Has anyone found that doing the swap yourself vs sending to ZMF worked out OK? ZMF stated that doing it yourself can be difficult so advised sending to them to do it. I do watch the video on how it is done.

The reason I stated that in the email today is because we recently changed our policies on this. While some users do fine, others do not, and we have very limited inventory of chassis parts, so selling a chassis part, and then sending more chassis parts out when owners mishandle them (understandably) because they are not professional zmf builders, costs us a lot of money, time and manpower which takes zmf away from being efficient, and able to offer this service, and we want to continue to offer services for any headphone, but we have to decide what can be done consistently by the user, and what need to be done in house. A full chassis swap is something we've decided needs to be done in house.

So for full chassis swaps owners will have to send their headphones in, and for more minor things like rod swaps, we can send singular parts out.

As a note - we also will not be able to send parts out for swaps for just aesthetic reasons unless we have the inventory available, as we have to keep parts on hand for functional reasons over aesthetic.

Sorry for any confusion regarding this and if I wasn't clear earlier!

Would be a great place to work, making something that you really like gives you joy, and if you can muster up a whole team to love what they are doing,
then the team can be great and the product shows all of that love.
…and Zach wouldn’t have to pay a dime…😳

Thanks for the fuller explanation. I will be sending the headphone to you for the chassis swap.
