We have about 20 of each (Ltd and stock) in production that will be finished and shipped in the next 10 - 14 days. The monkeypod will ship faster as we received a number of ironwood orders already from people at shows (London and rmaf) - I am doing my best to secure more Ironwood as I am anticipating it will be sold out quickly, if I am able to do so I will leave it selling as long as we have units we can make.

The whole plan was to have as many ready to ship as we could for the 20th and we are way ahead of where we were with any other release, so it won't be the typical wait from our previous pre-orders, which is why we're just calling it a "release discount" instead of a "pre-order discount" for 300 off.

I will run the discount through Zmfestivus weekend until the 7th of October for both models (Ltd and stock).
Hi, can you please tell me the dimensions of the earcups from the pads to the point where the wood ends so I would know how far they stand apart from my head?

Thanks!

Thanks!

It's about 2.5 inches - 25mm for the pads and 37mm for the cups.

NOTE: the pads compress a little and these are shallower on the z axis than the atticus/eikon cups by about 8mm.

Forgot if Zack had left these notes here
    • Took some graphs last night both for myself and to post here and everywhere. I wanted to really listen to the V closed next to the open and try to pinpoint the differences since that's probably a good frame of reference for anyone considering one.
    • V closed accentuates note attack a little more, it might be because it's closed and you get more immediate decay/cup reverb, or because the 8-10Khz region is more accentuated by a few dB's.
    • V closed is less euphonic in the mids - you can see this easily in the measurements. It makes everything a little less breathy, and likely what most consider closer to neutral.
    • V closed has a touch more rumble in the subby sub bass.
    • The sense of space and dimension is similar on both, but the open has that "can't pinpoint" the distance of the head-stage effect because it's more open. The closed you can imagine the position of what you're listening to easier, because a little of that space isn't there.
    • Because of the closed nature, sound attenuation, and maybe a slightly smoother THD the closed in a way seems to have a blacker background. With the open I was carefully playing with cup-reverb and the amount of wood used to get the effect I wanted, where'as with the closed I had to make everything more uniform in damping methods and airflow. You can see by the below THD graph the closed is just a hair smoother, which might explain it a little.

@zach915m Do you sell the plastic seahorse cases seperately? as much as i like the wood display box, i'll be transporting them daily to/from work, so i really need the seahorse case. sorry if this has been asked already, i didn't see anything when i searched.

When you order, you can request a seahorse case instead of a wood one in the order notes if you just want a seahorse case. If you want both, you can probably send Zach an email and he’ll probably work something out.

Interesting points. I do remember the HD800 perception differently, but I wasn't so much into the hobby then. However, with the Utopias I really felt there was a drop in general perception, and I assume most people (negatively) commenting probably did not own them anyway. I still love mine, btw.
I also assume the Verite is being let off lightly with the passing of the time, with ZMF being a small company with a nice guy, and may be because they deserve it. Let's see.

No, my positive statements on the VC, or VO, have nothing to do with Zach being a “nice guy (though he absolutely is).” For the record, I hate the HD800, the tone was never right, it sounded hollow and artificial. The Utopia is an excellent headphone, but I’m a sucker for accurate tone and detail, one without the other doesn’t cut it.

First the VO, and now the VC are checking of “my boxes” better than the HD800, Utopia, Abyss 1266, and Empyrean, that I’ve had in my System. There’s obviously a chance that your hot buttons aren’t the same as mine, more power too you, but if they are, you’ll love the VO and VC.

That's great to hear! I have been wondering about that. 80% of the music I hear is classical.
I am liking my Stellia more and more, but I still feel them less full/organic than my XC.

I think you’ll be happy with the VC for sure.

Hi Wildcats. Did you have a chance to check the above tracks?
Thanks!

Man I would never buy a headphone from that guy who is that!?

Yeah we can send a SH case in addition to or instead of the wood case. I will work on getting them on the website. Often though - to save on shipping I tell people to order them from amazon, it's the SH-SE430 case with pick and pluck foam. Then you can just ask us to send you an extra Dome label with your headphone and you can apply that on the case as they are Dye cut for that.

Trouble, trouble, trouble. Just pressed the purchase button for the VC ironwood. I am scared now .. of my wife. Rightly so.
Well, something will need to goto make up for it.

There’s an old quote in audio, “when I die, please don’t let my Wife sell my audio gear for what I told her it cost!”

Looks like Frank Zappa, Jr.!

Aaaand just like that i’m $2400 poorer. Thank god for PayPal credit...

Also RIP my Atticus (and maybe my VO if I find the VC sounds similar enough that it can fulfill the niches both those headphones fill.) :’(
