Okay now I am confused, one person says the VC is brighter than the VO and another says they are warmer... :deadhorse:

Yep,weve compared notes in other forums trying to figure out the reasons for the contradicting opinions. Were both using different pads for both the VO and VC. Additionally the loaner @Darthpool has has about a 60 hour headstart on the burn-in process than the VC I have.

I will say that the VC has more body in the mids and bass than the VO.

Ah okay that explains it. One of the problems with having so much choice with pads I guess, much harder to do direct comparisons. Nice to be able to have so much tuning available though.

Looking forward to getting a set of Ironwood when they come out :D

Yeah,I mean in a perfect world,I'd use the same pads, cables, tubes to compare both, but the Universe leather perf pads that I prefer for the VO,doesnt sound good on the VC.

I seem to remember Zach saying perforated pads in general didn't sound too good on the VC.

I am pretty sure I am going to enjoy these headphones when I get a pair based on the feedback so far. They will be a nice partnership with the Empyreans that I can take on holiday for some peace and quiet (excluding the music lol).

Concur, on this statement! these are just enough of a difference from the open to be noticed, but not enough for it to be drastically different, at least from my time with them, and from my point of view =) I’m also going off memory at the moment... I’ll do a more solid a/b this weekend between the open and closed using my reference chain (Phonitor XE and ADI-2DAC, with Qobuz studio streaming or local FLAC). Also, yes we have been comparing notes on another forum for these (I’m more active over there, here on headfi I’m mostly on the ZMF threads and a couple others, ZMF fans seem to be easier to get along with lol).

Also, burn-in, and pad rolling matter with the Verites, I wasn’t completely sold on burn in until tubes and ZMF cans =) now I “get” it lol. Beyond that, we are all different/unique when it comes to how we hear things, plus experience in explaining what we are hearing, I’m very new to writing about sound, so take that into account...I’m more of a newbie trying to explain what I’m hearing, @Monsterzero has much more experience in it than I do.

the C LTD ?

The pictures are of the standard monkey pod wood model, they are quite the lookers and change color depending on lighting, just like a lot of the ZMF headphones, they look amazing in photos, but even more mesmerizing in person!

Hey MZ....when you say it has more body would I be correct in thinking that the sound has more weight in these areas ?

Thanks.

Yes,youre correct. The VO doesnt lack body or weight, but when I a/b vs. the VC its a noticeable difference.

Another random thought... Last night as I was listening to my classic rock folder, set to shuffle, 'Manic Depression' by Hendrix came on. I have heard this track hundreds,if not thousands of times. When I was a kid, friends and family used to refer to me as Jimi, because I was the biggest Hendrix freak alive....
Anyways during the solo of Manic Depression at around the 1:50 mark Jimi, apparently quite impressed with himself(or someone) mutters something that I cant type here. The VC's imaging allowed me to hear something that previously escaped my attention for 49 years. :)

I’m finding the same on the VC, I’m picking up lyrics (and associated verbiage) that I’ve never heard on recordings I’ve listened too for more than 30 years. I’m finding the impact greater with the VC, not sure if ty are a little bit brighter, or if it’s that the VO’s “voice” emphasis is just a bit more mid centric (this may also play a role in vocal clarity as well). Soundstage is close, but the VC images better (both VO & VC are superior to the Empyrean), I’m using the Universal Lamb on the VC and the solid Lamb (the most sumptuous Pads this side of Audeze) on the VC.

With more listening @Monsterzero, you need to try the solid pads, the impact/weighty presentation is increased, and they are very extended, without being bright.

I am using solid pads, the Auteur leather, which to me sound the most neutral of the three.
If had anymore body and weight my head would implode.

I can’t remember, are the Autuer Pads sloped (the world escapes me at the moment)?
