My last EQ was kind of insane, leaving out a big portion of the response to such a high degree. The one I've settled on for now is much less severe (but still very v-shaped).

Still using Universe pads and Massdrop THX AAA 789. This sounds about "right" to me - gets rid of most of the VC's congestion (with the equipment I use and how I hear things), while still retaining some of the body of the sound.

I think I will eventually buy Eikon Suede pads, just to see if they might fix my issues with the VC.

I tried my eikon suede pads on my VC and did not like it at all. similar treble response, but the mids and bass lost most of their impact, and the stage collapsed. it was very very odd sounding.

Is anyone using the Universe Hybrid pads? (Lambskin/suede)

If so I’d love to hear your feedback. I’m hopeful they are all of the goodness of the Universe pads with slightly tampered down treble.

I use the ECP T4 with my VC. I have never heard Pendant.

Haha, so, uh... Just simply moving the Universe pads back on my head, so that the front of my ears are touching the inside front of the pads, clears up the sound pretty much completely. I don't strongly feel the need to EQ what I'm hearing now. Understandably, I am used to balancing the position of headphone pads so that my ears are centered where the drivers are firing.

If anyone finds the VCs to sound odd, or congested, or just plain underwhelming (was a check on all three for me), you might want to try that.

Before I discovered this I put Eikon Suede pads on order, and I am still curious to hear them on the VC.

And my EQs, from the upper bass to somewhere in the midrange being soooo recessed, were definitely garbage, I accept that. I am considering getting a Schiit Loki, so I can learn how to EQ with 4 bands, first.

I found something similar with the default pads as well. Certain tracks felt slightly congested until I realized I wasn't maximizing the sealing force. My head is squarish and wide at the back and flatter and narrower at the top center. Resting the headband on the top of my head felt loose even at the narrowest setting, to the point where it would wobble if I tilt my head up and down. But as soon as I moved the headband to rest on the wider squarish part of my head, it improved the comfort, seal, and sound quite noticeably. Now I feel that sense of being IN the music that others have spoken about.

How you position the pads is important for a lot of headphones, but it makes such a big difference with the VC.

This is true of most closed headphones but maybe a little more true with the Verite Closed, and also why closed headphones are harder to get accurate measurements with unless you have an impedance matched measurement rig that aligns with the human ear. It just has to do with how closed the VC is, as the spacing between each individuals ear and the driver will vary the sound more than an open headphone that has more aural space to work with.

Even more reason having numerous pads is useful to help with each user's preferences and anatomy!

@zach915m - do you have any impressions on what to expect with the Universe Hybrid pads?

It mostly smooths the treble a little, adds a touch of linearity and dull the transients ever so slightly. They're certainly nice but I always seem to go back to lambskin as I like the slight "edge" they have. The feel of the ZMF suede is nice though.
