I would generally recommend stock tuning, as the Omni is a a touch south of neutral with slightly elevated bass and mids. I would personally recommend Cherry as it has the widest soundstage and most romantic mids of any wood IMHO.  Those are available in b stock and the cups are already finished and ready to assemble.

Nice to speak with you too!

Thanks a lot Zach for the suggestions.

Really an honour to speak to the founder itself.

Such an honour to held up.

Zach, would you paint the cherry wood to dark red .?

Prefer red colour if possible.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Maybe Padauk would be red enough for you?

Unfortunately we don't do staining on the Omni.  Padauk may be the best choice for a dark red color, as we can slightly darken it as well.

Noted.

Means the only last 2 used sets of blackwood right.

The omni price start at 679 usd right , Zach.?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Yes the price is $679 for the B stock Walnut and Cherry Omni's.

zach915m, for older 1980s CDs burned to 16/44.1 FLAC and also liking female vocals equally well to male, which wood is recommended for the Omni?

I am looking for forgiving and the above. Also, I listen with a Questyle QP1R.

I would recommend Cherry, it's definitely at the top of my favorite woods for it's relaxing large soundscape like nature, it's great with vocals for sure as are any of the woods, they are all tuned the same.   Because of the pore size in cherry there's a little more decay which makes just about anything sound pleasant and wonderful without giving up detail.

Cocobolo/Bocote, Walnut would be good options too because they all have enough pores/resin to diffuse the sound somewhat.

Questyle QP1R is great!

Thanks for the quick reply. I also like treble as much as mids and base. Of those woods, is cherry still the best? I guess more neutral might be the description.

It's tough because they are all tuned the same, so what is changing between woods is really the timbre and presentation.  The Cherry/Black Limba/Maple type woods will have the least robust/impactful bass presentation, while hard woods like Bocote and Blackwood will be more hard hitting and sub woofer like.  It's this less girthy bass and slight decay that makes the cherry the most neutral and wide sounding of the bunch IMHO, but at the same time the treble isn't as sharp as the Blackwood or harder woods.  They are all in the same ballpark because of the tuning, so I typically recommend picking the one that looks the nicest to you.

Cherry does have the added bonus of being the lightest in weight too.

Thanks again. Now time to figure out the options I want.

By the way, can the cherry be painted red.?

Or only the pauduk can be stained red ?

Hoping to have a red colour wood.

I may wanna choose to get the omni but i still need a bit of time.
Maybe will visit to E1 to hear the Omni.

Padauk doesn't actually get a stain, it would just get a very light hue in the last coat of the lacquer to make the color a little deeper and more vibrant.    This Cocobolo set is an example:

Hi Jonathan, imho LCD 3 tops your list but they are open ended and twice more expensive than the Omnis which come next. Over the years I gradually moved to closed end HPs, finding their sound to be more cohesive and accurate. The one area however they give ground to the top open cans is spaciousness, depth and width of the sound stage. Granted, top closed models such as the Omnis, Alpha Prime and XC narrow it very much, still a top open can will be more 'open' than a top closed one. I presently own Omni Walnut, Alpha Prime and LFF Enigma, and the latter stands above them all including LCD 3. To my ears the Primes are more resolving than the Omnis with a less prominent lows but a bit more detailed. Soundstage is about the same, though the Primes feel slightly more open on some recordings due to extra details in the highs. The Omnis are more fun to listen to in general, being ever so slightly darker overall which tend to make music more exciting, and they look much, much better than the Primes (which is important too). The Enigmas on the other hand combine the details of the Primes, with the slight darkness of the Omnis - detailed yet prominent lows - and the openness of LCD 3, yes it's true. From your list though I'd go for the Omnis unless openness is a top priority/must and you can splash on LCD 3.

Thanks for this. Good to see a comparo to the enigma.
