Great you’re mentioning Metallica - And Justice for All! I started with listening to Metallica when this album was newly released and Justice… was my first live concert back in 1989!

I totally agree that this album doesn’t work with leaner headphones. With every headphone or IEM I try, this album (Blackened, Dyers Eve) belong to my listening test routine.

I will be getting a CC (and CO) demo in the next days and I’m very intrigued how they perform with this album and, of course, in general!

Hey, I saw that tour as well. Damaged Justice. I was in Junior High. It was amazing.

There's a recording from the Japan leg of that tour that's a fun listen.

I remember being in Junior High in the burbs in the Bay Area paying for Metallica bootleg tapes, and me and my friends trying to convince our older siblings to take us into SF for a show.

Sheesh...I remember there being only about six people remaining in the Troubadour after W.A.S.P. finished tearing the club up and watching this band called Slayer and spitting on Kerry King and getting it right back.

I'm old apparently.

BTW KEA is the best Metallica album.

I love KEA, but it’s Puppets or Lightning for me. They improved after KEA. It’s raw and energetic, but I think they improved on it.

Agreed! Kill Em All was raw and energetic and love it still, and Ride the Lightning further improved, but when they got to Master of Puppets, they really hit their stride. After that, they plateaued with …And Justice and even the Black Album. I still really like Load and Reload, but it was different.

yeah, i mean the later albums had their charm, the tempo changes ets... BUT, when KEA dropped nobody had heard anything like it. Sure we had Motorhead and Venom, but KEA was somehow heavier and faster.

At the time we didn't have a name for this type of music (thrash) we just knew it was new and aggressive and kicked the snot out of all of the other L.A. bands around at the time. We were excited to see where this new type of metal was headed and to be a part of that scene, to be involved, to live the lifestyle I guess scores a lot of sentimental points with me.

FWIW two of my three fav Metallica songs are on KEA....Whiplash and Four Horsemen.... and Hit The Lights is in my Top Ten.

Around Load is when James and Lars hit their 30s and their sound changed, and the business side of things came more to the forefront.

As for favorite, for me it's a tie between S&M and Master of Puppets.

72 Seasons is the best studio album since Reloaded, but like all the albums since Load it's about 10 to 15 minutes too long.

Definitely have a point there. KEA made a monstrous wave when it came out. I think that’s why even after the big four, it changed. While I still consider the Black Album to be fantastic, it showed things down pretty significantly. I think the appeal of that album to me is how much heavier it got. It’s still aggressive, not as fast, but it had a whole lot of weight to the aggression.

Top three ‘tallica songs?
Battery
Master of Puppets
One

Honorable mention: No Leaf Clover from S&M. Love that song.

Don’t know how, but I cannot say that I’ve heard that cover before…

That’s awesome!

How do you feel about Mechanix? ;-)

How do you feel about Mechanix?
I'm not a fan of Mustaine as a person nor his vocals, though it's pretty clear his influence on early Metallica

Not a huge Megadeth fan, more of a casual listener of Mustaine. I did buy Rust in Peace and Peace Sells on DSD64 recently, but that was more to support the hopes that more metal bands and their labels will release their older analog masters on DSD.

Unfortunately, I think Mustaine will be better known for his controversies than his music.

I still think Peace Sells and So Far So Good So What are amazing albums, regardless of Dave's personality.
