More mid-bass than sub-bass for sure. The biocellulose drivers in the Auteur/Eikon/Atrium seem to be better at reproducing sub-bass.How is the bass/sub-bass of the Aeolus?

How does the Aeolus compare to a Audeze-X 2021 Rev?
Yes perforated.I did have the 789 before. But I sold that long ago. What about the Topping A90? I also have a Bifrost 2 as my DAC which many say is a "warm" DAC.
I assume you are referring to the perforated lambskin BE2 right?
Yes perforated.
Okay. Just making sure. I think one of the reasons I may be finding the Aeolus "dark" is cause of my HD800S. They are pretty different sounding headphones. The big ear cups of the 800S take some getting used to as well.
in what sense; what are you comparingHow does the Aeolus compare to a Audeze-X 2021 Rev?
How does the bass/ sub-bass compare to 6XX? Audeze LCD-X 2021 Rev.

as @haasaaroni mentioned, you'll be better off with a Auteur, Eikon or Atrium, if you're looking for bass, especially sub-bass. The Aeolus is more focused on the mid-bass.How does the bass/ sub-bass compare to 6XX? Audeze LCD-X 2021 Rev.
p.s: LCD-X is super heavy, so that should also be a factor when deciding what you want to get. I also faced some problems with the cups not being able to swivel and rotate freely on the LCD-X, but YMMV
Would the SPL Phonitor SE be a nice match?

I feel like I should have read this thread before I bought my Aeolus. I may have reached too high too soon. They were only my second pair (after getting my ears wet with Sundaras to see if this headphone thing would stick). I have a feeling I’m going to spend a lot of money trying different headphones and never feel as much at home as I do while wearing the Aeolus. Maybe Auteur or Atrium have a chance eventually, but I’ve got an LCD-X on the way and I’m sure they’ll be others. How can you fully appreciate what you have if you never compare?

The Aeolus and LTA MZ3 are a wonderful match! LCD-X (mine is a 2016) is a great LTA MZ3 partner, too!I feel like I should have read this thread before I bought my Aeolus. I'm not sure there is ever "too high too soon" but I do get your meaning (I think). That "at home" feeling is a great descriptor IMO, there's something about it's sound that just feels "right" somehow.
As far as Auteur/Atrium, I am currently trying to sell my pair of Aeolus only to fund an Atrium, which I love. Not more, just different. In fact I'll probably keep them for sale for a while, and if I get the funds to buy the Atrium without selling the Aeolus, I don't think I'll be very disappointed at all.

Very pretty color variation in the wood grain. Are they Canarywood?
Yep. I think they were overshadowed by the Atrium release, but I immediately knew I had to have them. No regrets.Very pretty color variation in the wood grain. Are they Canarywood?
