It's the back of a bedside table...........something no one ever sees. Look at the underneath or back of your furniture for the best backdrops. It's the wood the furniture builders look down on. For photography you want texture. Normally furniture often does not (in plain sight) have texture........as it looks unfinished.
First impressions. Very , very organized sound. Really good transients, very agile and harmonic bass. Lots of good energy in the upper mids. No shouty moments ! Yet ! Layering is the best I've heard from a single driver. Stereo cues are insane. Musical without being particularly "fun" sounding which is a feat in itself. So far very , very impressive
Mind blown, the ZEN now has a soundstage bigger than the IER-Z1R. They work as now the ZEN is now being used as an on-ear IEM. Bass is still very close to the same with regular tips. There has now been a correction much like the success everyone has had using inverted tips on the BLON BL-01. The ZEN IEM is more advanced so the inverted tip process is exponential.
This never worked with the IER as it hung out too far. Also the IER had it’s signature discombobulated due to losing bass and balance of FR. Now the ZEN has gone into a whole new world. All this will be included in my review. I was able to get about 5 different tips to work but the ZEN is stubborn to change FR due to variations in bore style.

Maybe it's just me, but don't those flipped tips (or at least the KZ ones) seem to be just like regular Spiral Dots? Wider bore opening, bigger bulge in middle of tip versus conical shape for KZ?

Never tried the Spiral Dots. But have never found a tip to do what these are doing? The ZEN has imaging and soundstage like a pair of HD800s now.....almost.
Wish I could take this set-up to a meet right now and watch people’s jaw drop.
