Fair enough, but I feel there's some dynamic range loss when using 6v into the Oor due to the volume attenuation I have to do to get it to a listenable volume level. No to mention the volume pot is not that usable.Variable output voltage from a DAC won't help with amp noise floor
It'll help if you have a lack of actual volume control range or are so low on a pot that you get channel imbalance but that's not an issue here

Is there nowhere to buy the zahl hm1? Until 2024?

You might be able to entice some one on the list to sell there’s.
If you’re in North America, we’re completely sold through. We have a waitlist of people who have asked if any one cancels to be notified if you’d like to join.Is there nowhere to buy the zahl hm1? Until 2024?
I can’t speak outside of North America though although when I spoke to Zahl in January they mentioned all of the units had been spoken for when we tried to get some extras.

My review is up!
GoldenOne, just wondering, are there pics of the HM1 internals yet. You usually take the lid off things when you review.

Totally agree. I have them separate in my home setup, but used HM1 as a pre into Nautilus at a recent meet, and that is a totally killer combo. Need to rework the home setup to do the same. The HM1 alone really brings out the best of any headphone you throw at it, which is an impressive achievement. However, when combined with a tube amp, it brings the listening experience to a whole new level.
That's my plan as well but with HM1 to LTA Z10e (for some headphones and some straight from the Zahl)Totally agree. I have them separate in my home setup, but used HM1 as a pre into Nautilus at a recent meet, and that is a totally killer combo. Need to rework the home setup to do the same.

DAP is Hiby RS8 and the "thing behind" is CR08 cradle. It's a convenient way to convert 4.4 line out to XLR, plus it looks nice. I got mine as part of a Hiby / MusicTeck promo for early RS8 owners in exchange for posting some impressions here at Head-Fi.What's the thing behind your DAP?
Yeah, no. The HM1 will be the end of the road for me

Its similar, but slightly different to this one. I don't actually see it listed on the Hiby site, but mine is intended to pair with RS8 and has some similar aesthetics, etc.

Gets thumbs up.... Volume scales slowly, but it has plenty of headroom and plenty of awesome. But something like a DT990 600 Ohm maybe.

Have you tried the reverse, tube preamp into the HM1? To me that seems to make more sense as you keep the technical performance of the HM1, but get the tube sound as well.Totally agree.
