YULONG D200 Impression : ES9016 Balanced DAC + Class A Single End Headphone Amp + Balanced Pre-amp

Depends on what you are trying to do. Some people want to use the D200 as a pre-amp. Just press in and hold the volume knob to swap modes (full power line out vs. pre-amp). What you cannot do is have full power XLR outputs AND still use the headphone amplifier.

Does that answer your question?

Thanks, yes, partially - but only cause there is a hidden question as well. Which is: Does the headphone amp when is turned on and You run the external amplifier (big one  and speakers for example), does it not make any disotrions to the sound overall? That is my main concern.
And yes, You're very right about that: "What you cannot do is have full power XLR outputs AND still use the headphone amplifier." - it is even said in the manual.

It seems pretty clean as a pre-amp. Doesn't seem to have the typically feared "double amp" issues (because the pre-amp level is lower than the straight line-out, you don't hit any headroom issues).

With that said - I mostly run it in pure dac mode and control the volume from the external amps. Just my preference.

sorry, wrong answer. Well, tried to look it up as well just now, and the only thing i came across is - "extremely low", but no figures...

Do you want to check if there is going to be any his or anything bad comming out through the IEMs or easy driveable cans with D200?

The easiest to drive cans i've ever plugged in to the D200 was Ultrasone HFI-780, and AKG K550. Nothing heard apart that i wanted to head from music.

Subscribe! Hello guys, I'm interested in this DAC _ Amp for possibly an HE400i or HD650. I will get the headphones first and use a laptop for a source but looking into to combo units and this one was on my radar. A bit more than what I want to spend but I saw a few used, along with other choices.

Would these go well with the HE400i and HD650s?

Yes - it will work just fine with both of those (neither of which is particularly difficult to power, or picky as to sound signature).

Someone told me about Audio-Gd. My purchase is probably 3 months away for a DAC + Amp because I'm buying the headphones first. Good to know! I like the D200's profile and looks.

As an owner of D200 I can recommend AUNE S16 as well. I am just testing that DAC/AMP  - and they are both great pieces of kit, shortly the differences in the sound are that the S16 goes wider and more indirect, and a little bit mode 3 dimensional than D200. D200 is a bit more direct sounding - both with the soundstage and the tonality. Really hard to say which is better - depending what you like.. The amps - both work different for all different cans - what is a quite a lesson for me. But to make a choice I would suggest for anybody to listen - golden rule :)

I can confirm in short that the D200 is neutral sounding, The headphone amp is in par with DA8 headphone amp. but with different presentation. Yulong has never hide that the headphone can be considered as a cut-corner implementation as it share the same power supply with the DAC, so it is single ended and will not be very powerful. Having said that, I owned the NuForce HDP previously, and Yulong's cut-corner bundle is more powerful and capable then the HDP for sure.

In addition to that, using the XLR out for balanced headphone is a big surprised, and I'll come to that in more detail later.

Im looking to use these with some HD800's. Is this a DAC and AMP combo or do I need to buy something else. (AKA can I plug this in directly through USB and use it standalone.)

I have tried both T1 and HD700 with D200, but sold the unit and upgraded to D8 before I bought my HD800, so I can't be sure but my guess is it can drive the HD800 satisfactory, but might on the lean side on sound signature.

The USB input on D200 is actually very good for DAC at this price range, I'll not hesitate to connect the D200 to any USB source directly.

I have a problem with my just purchased D200 and wanted to confirm it is a defect, not an odd "feature"

I picked up a D200 from Amazon because of their excellent current pricing and quick delivery.   I it sounds great BUT, there is an extremely loud POP sound when Optical input decoding starts heard through the headphone jack. (I have not tried the DAC out.)  It is very short, but loud enough it may well damage headphones, (or hurt ears).

This happens for me when my Chromecast audio wakes up from sleep, or if I reboot it.   When the D200's Optical input goes from no signal to 44.1KHz when it senses the chromecast the very lout pop happens just before the music plays.

I do not have this issue at all on the 2 different SMSL dacs, or a generic dac I have tried it with.  I am pretty sure it did not have this issue the 1st day or so (I would surely have noticed it).

Does anyone else have this issue?   Since I use the optical in most of the time it is not acceptable for me.  I have not tried the other digital inputs to see if the same probelm exists.   Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not very helpful, my D200 is currently away for a longer time. I'm a mainly USB user as well. Used it with PS4 through optical.

What I can remember, that there was some pop sound at some point and there was about it in the manual. But I can't remember if that was the matter.

What I can really recommend is to burn it in for at least 20 hours. I do remember well my disguise when I heard my unit for the first minutes, I heard a few disturbing sounds coming from it all got sorted out by burning in.

Sorry if can't be more helpful mate..
