To get slightly off track, have you ever heard "The Art of the Theremin," by Clara Rockmore?

Truly old-school electronica. Different from what's being mentioned here (and lots of excellent recommendations in this thread) but if you want to hear where it all began, pick this up. Great disc.

Hey, that reminds me. There's a pretty neat compilation people should hear:

Amazon.com: OHM: The Early Gurus of Electronic Music: Brian Eno,Maryanne Amacher,Robert Ashley,Milton Babbitt,Louis and Bebe Barron,Francois Bayle,David Behrman,John Cage,John Chowning,Alvin Curran,Holger Czukay,Tod Dockstader,Charles Dodge,Herbert /

I was reminded because the first track is Clara Rockmore. She was incredible.

I wouldn't really call what she does electronic music though. I mean, it is in some literal sense, but it's far removed from the spirit of electronic music. Some of the tracks soon after hers on that compilation really get the point across that electronic has been around for many, many decades. A proper site would list the years along with all those tracks. They go back to the late 20s and early 30s and work on up.

Tangerine Dream - Poland
The Knife - Silent Shout
Infected Mushroom - umm pick one
Autechre -
U-Ziq - Lunatic Harness
Recently REALLY enjoying basically anything I've gotten from here: // welovetoemerge // Norman Hecht
(if you click on the keys of the keyboard you get other artists, and I haven't found one that I don't like yet). In general, they sound like awesome Commodore 64 music crossed with Kraftwerk, but with modern production.
Also liking Trentemoller.

Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy - Goa
Depeche Mode - Black Celebration - Synth-Pop
Isolee - We Are Monster - Left-Field
Matmos - The Civil War - Experimental Techno

Mezzanine- Massive Attack
Kraftwerk- Tour de la France
Art of Noise - Who's Afraid of Art of Noise

I just got into electronica. I am really liking Kraftwerk's stuff. Who should I look into based off of that?
