Not sure about the other two, but Californication must be one of the worst sounding albums ever made. Music itself is quite good though.

My list would be something like this:

Dire Straits - On Every Street
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Mastersound Limited Edition)
Opeth - Damnation

You could pretty much put all of the Dire Straits albums on this list but that would be boring. I also have many basic demo albums which are used quite often (Diana Krall, Bela Fleck etc.) but listing them would be boring also.

The best sounding CD i have ever heard in any genre is Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Emil Gilels and Eugen Jochum with the Berlin Phil.......This was recorded in the early 70s. It is still the most natural classical recording I've ever heard

Other very very special sounding recordings for me would include
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
and...........and this is going be disagreed with, but I think the mono version of Revolver is stellar.....it sounds old fashioned, but it has a punch that is awesome!
Wilco - Yankee Foxtrot Hotel
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Radiohead - Kid A

all these albums are great sounding......but the Brahms CD is the best in terms of sheer naturalness.

Anytime. This version is extremely well mastered. It's not compressed at all and it sounds wonderful for being a regular (and cheap) off the shelf pressing. Enjoy!

Good thread! I've been poking at hi-rez digital a bit lately and these have been in heavy rotation:

Waltz for Debby, Bill Evans Trio
Violator, Depeche Mode
Thriller, Michael Jackson

All of these are on SACD and have been delivering multiple eargasms courtesy of the HD-800. There are many others, too. The DSoTM SACD is pretty awesome, as well. I've also come pretty damn close to ordering a DVD-A player the past few days. I'll probably pull the trigger this weekend. I've been picking up a few DVD-A and DualDisc recordings lately and want to hear them.

I'll rotate back into the black discs sooner or later, but have been on a hi-rez digital buying spree. A lot of SACDs and DVD-As are out of production or are running low in stock. I want to pick up as many as possible now before they disappear and eBay bidding becomes fierce.

Not many of them go back into production, much unlike vinyl. If there's a great, rare vinyl pressing, odds are that they'll run some more off. You might not have an über-rare first pressing, but later releases usually sound terrific, and that's what I care about most.

Just picked up the Jeff Buckley Grace cd....Brilliant suggestion folks....I'm in awe...though the HD800 is unforgiven of the production...so, I use the more forgiving hd600s or the Grado HF-2s!
Radiohead- OK Computer
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia...love it always.
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk or The Dance.

oops that's four, sorry.

The Thriller single layer SACD is a flat transfer from the master tape. According to one engineer, it sounds exactly like it. One of the very best SACD's I have as well.
