Your 3 BEST SOUNDING albums

Sep 20, 2009 at 8:46 PM Post #46 of 69
Probably the best sounding album I ever heard is Infected mushroom's new album: Legend of the black Shawarma.
It is so well produced, no single hitch of sibilance or overdoing. It's balance of things, resolution and crystal clear sound amazes me.

It is very hard to decide between about 15 great recordings that come to mind at the moment, but I think my top 3 today would be these:

THE APARTMENTS - A Life Full of Farewells

STEVE KHAN & ROB MOUNSEY - You Are Here

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD & FRIENDS - S/T [XRCD 24-bit]

Wow, this is certainly on my list, and I absolutely love that album! I don't know many people who have heard of it though. I'm a huge Jeff Porcaro fan and his drumming on this album is simply phenomenal. sp70.

The other two on my list are probably (one of the many) remasters of Aja - Steely Dan, and the MFSL remaster of Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs.

If I was to count actual albums it would be pretty difficult for me. Including soundtracks and compilations it's not that hard though.

Classical compilation:
Some Telarc compilation CD (coded as TCD 003) I picked up at a jumble-sale. 22 pieces from classical composers and modern soundtrack artists alike. Possibly the best sounding CD I own, with some great recordings of the likes of John William's Imperial March, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite (In the Hall of the Mountain King), and an excerpt from Jupiter of Holst's The Planets.

Soundtrack:
I was going to go for Lord Of The Rings here, but instead I'm going to mention the Assassin's Creed II soundtrack composed by Jesper Kyd, as over-all the sound is very good for a game soundtrack.

Rock:
Black Sabbath's self titled album (an older Castle Records CD version, though I've heard the original vinyls for many of their albums are also a great listen).

Return to Forever - "Romantic Warrior" - ( Original vinyl pressing  )
Rush - "Moving Pictures" - ( Original vinyl pressing )
Gentle Giant - "In a glass House" ( Alucard records remaster on 200g vinyl )

To be honest...there could be many more, anything from the 70s sounds better than average compared to modern loudness war influenced recordings.

AC-DC - Back in Black.  The drums in particular are just lovely.
Nevermore - DHIADW
Aimee Mann - Bachelor No 2
Kind of Blue
