The price is 385,000 yen (icl. tax)
Cable : 4.4mm
Pads : suede (The photo is same as YH-5000SE. The pads on the photo are sheep skin. so either this info or the photo is wrong)

So far, no other shops show this package.

Didn't take long. Glad I didn't FOMO the SE. Lower price point has my interest, though it isn't by that much (price delta for a "limited"/ special vs standard)

What’s the difference between the SE and B versions?

I think it's the headphone stand and one set of pads and one of the cables. Is that correct?

That's the way I understand it. The SE version gets you both sets of pads, both sets of cables and the stand. The B version you get one set of pads, one cable and no stand. You can both those extra accessories if you want.

If that listing is correct, the 4.4mm balanced cable is the one included in the regular edition, as opposed to a 3.5mm or 6.35mm cable. This is an interesting choice (I'm all for it), as most companies supply single-ended cables by default and charge extra for the balanced. Considering Yamaha's engineers spoke about spending quite a bit of effort on the cable, they might have wanted to "put their best cable forward" if there was only going to be one in the box, and balanced cables can be converted to single-ended via adapters pretty easily. On the other hand, it might just be an incomplete store listing, and you can buy the regular edition with either a single-ended cable or a balanced cable, but not both (buyer selects before adding to cart).

Kind of funny to read this stuff about 4.4mm balanced. I have 9 amps here (believe it or not), and not a single one has a 4.4mm balanced output. 7 have 4-pin XLR output, though.

Just checked and there are 4.4mm-to-4-pin XLR adapters, but they're not cheap.

Oh, well. Just one more way the tech world is passing me by...

Correct.
Well, I should have explained a bit more on the model name.
The "(B)" means the color, "black". The SE version is called "YH-5000SE(B)" as well by the retailers. So this new set with fewer accessories is a normal version of YH-5000, rather than "B" version.

Let me summarize what's in the box.

YH-5000SE(B)
- a pair of headphones
- a 2m cable with 3.5mm single-ended plug (+6.35mm adapter)
- a 2m cable with 4.4mm balanced plug
- a pair of suede pads
- a pair of sheep skin pads
- a stand

YH-5000(B)
- a pair of headphones
- a 2m cable with 4.4mm balanced plug
- a pair of suede pads

I use this Neutrik adapter ($39 on Amazon). I love its form factor, as together with the 4.4mm plugged in, it essentailly look and feels more or less like a regular XLR plug combined. Very convenient and minimal:

Could you confirm what you know the prices of these two models are planned to be? (I'm curious what the actual delta would be). Thank you..

YH-5000SE 495,000 JPY
YH-5000 385,000 JPY
delta = 110,000 JPY
(all including VAT)

The normal version is 22% discount from the SE package.

thanks!

That's nearly $1,000 for an extra cable and pads. I imagine if one is lucky and prefers the suede it's an easy choice (unfortunately, I've always preferred lambskin on most headphones...🤷‍♀️)

Same here, if given a choice I prefer to start with leather pads over suedes.

I guess I'm the odd one out on the leather vs suede choice. I generally prefer the feel of suede over leather. Even with my Stax headphone that uses lambskin leather on the earpad face, I find it gets uncomfortable after a while. Part of my preference for Hifimans is the use of a fabric mesh on their earpads rather than leather or pleather. And when I've pad-rolled to suede pads from leather, I've generally found the sound changes to be positive. So it looks like I can save some money if I ever take the plunge on the Yamaha :).

While I do confess to prefer leather for comfort and esthetics as well, mainly it usually works for me as it has deeper bass (very crude generalization, this reaaaaly varies). But many folks prefer suede as you do!!
