I just got an email from Yamaha touting their two new headphones, the fullsize HPH-200 and the IEM EPH-100. Yamaha is very forthcoming in admitting that they don't make their own headphones, and that they're built with another company's assistance. In the past, it was obvious that their RH10MS headphones were just rebranded Ultrasone HFI-450's. What about these current models, any idea which brand and model they are, or are they custom?

At first glance, I'm assuming that they're Grado, but the impedance is 48 Ohm. What do you guys say?

What? Yamaha didn't design HPH-200? It's their first new headphone after 30 years, isn't it?

The shape look similar to the JVC hp s560's. Imo.

I have the Yamahas. I believe they are based on the audio technica ath ep700. I've seen pics of the ep700 driver and they look very similar, if not identical. Their earpads look similar too. I have not directly compared the two headphones. The main differences appear to be the driver housing, headband, cable design (length, y-split, jack plug) and overall styling of course. Also, the yamahas came bubble wrapped inside an audio technica-like box with the slits on the back; very simple packaging, nothing fancy. The specs are also very similar.

I bought a pair of these tonight and was just looking for some reviews. I think they sound extremely good.

I was planning on buying the Denon ADH-2000s but came across these in an identical demo setup.

After almost two hours comparing these, the Denon 2000 and 5000s, I think these are very close to the Denons in terms of detail. More bass than the 2000s, but still clean and well defined.

For half the price of the Denon 2000, I'm extremely happy with them.

Just purchased a pair of these. Very interesting to see how they are. Considering how well the EPH-100 is doing, I trust Yamaha to impress with these headphones.

Unfortunately mission HPH-200 was aborted quite some time ago. After ordering online I found out there was a 'possibly' of trailing them at my local shopping mall so I cancelled the order. On arrival in-store they wouldn't let me demo them and I was left with nothing. I've since moved on to higher end IEM's leaving HPH-200 all but forgotten.

I just tried a pair of these out at our local Richer Sounds.  The result being they were purchased and my SR125's are now on epay.
 
Very nice headphones for the price, punch well above their price.

I work for Richer Sounds and also own a pair of these headphones (must say, a real complimentary sound - way better than the Grado SR-80's in my opinion!) and as far as I and the Yamaha rep' are aware (i enquired after reading this post) the HPH-200's use Yamaha's very own design and parts
