That sounds great, now if only somebody could fix the display issue where it's useless in daylight I could fully enjoy this DAP haha. It sounds great and has plenty of power but display is terrible and battery is just OK.

This is the matter of screen cover - these plastic is really dim. I have managed to dismount it and attach a cover cut off the DS Lite Screen Protector.
Here you can read about it.

Correct, here’s my How2. It’s very easy to follow:

I think it's easier to simply dissassemble the DAP (only 2 Torx screws) and then push the cover out instead of using razor and risking soem scratches.
But yeah, this DS Lite Screen Protector is perfect for this topic.

A number of people have sheared off their volume buttons when trying to remove or replace the circuit board. That renders the X3 100% broken.

If a razor blade is used as my How2 instructed, there is minimal to no risk of problems. However, removing the circuit board, there is a risk of problems.

But it is up to each individual to decide what method is easiest and safest.

What have people upgraded to from the x3? My battery life is shot on the x3 and I had not used my ibasso dx50 for a while and it will not charge properly either. Is the new x3 mark 2 a worthy upgrade?

Seems like it would be, and it is cheaper than the predecessor. For want of trying something new I bought the Hidizs AP80 but my old X2 was a great player for what it did. XDuoo is a great value proposition.

Have not been here for ages... what is this VTX5 firmware..? Does it cure the pitch problem? Where can I download it?

Hello, regarding this VTX5 version, is this worth it if I already have a fine-working X3 with rockbox? For instance, is there an upgrade in terms of sound quality?

From what I understand from Vortex's post, I need to flash my rockboxed X3 with the VTX5 version (an altered version of the stock), and then install rockbox after that?

If this still requires a Windows 7 machine, then it really sucks. Unless I don't really stand to gain from the VTX5 upgrade.

Rockbox tweak is only needed for early X3 that has fiemware 1.0, which has pitch issue for certain audio sampling rate.. (Browse it.. I already forgot which rate)

But firmware 1.1 already fix this issue.

Unless you love Rockbox, the use VTX5 + Rockbox is not mandatory anymore..

Thank you for the reply. I tried updating it to VTX5 with the "update" file and entering the stock firmware menu. When I pressed on "upgrade", it did nothing other than starting up my rockbox firmware instead. So, the manual update will be needed, something that I'm not able to do with W10.

I don't think that I will spend more time dealing with this. Probably better to look for an actual upgrade in DAP.
