XDuoo X3 DSD 24Bit / 192KHz CS4398 Chip Lossless Music Player

When Mine died for a while in this process. I noticed, that I removed the card and put my music card back in, followed by the reset. I dont know if it helps you. But for me it worked. I gave up the idea of bricking mine, with win 10. will go to a friend who has 7 or xp next week.;)

I can not sleep thinking about this problem, I got up and I again tried everything:

My xduoo was charged for one hour (but it was already 100% charged when it bricked)

Hold boutton is not enabled, the power boutton has no effect.
a reset.
reset + power button.
connected without pressing any button on another PC with W7 too, sometimes I get "unknown peripheral, can not find a driver." sometimes, I have no message.
connected to PC and pressing the power button: nothing.

(all thoses experiences with several USB cables, multiple USB ports and with two differents SD)
:
I downloaded both files again and reinstalled everything, applied strictly the manual (as I did the first time, and as Computer Graphic designer, I am very confortable with computers)
Connected to the PC by pressing the option button and then releasing it: nothing happens.

I have an "unknown usb peripheral" in my peripherals manager, but if I try to update the driver as, I have a message "no valid driver found in the directory".

I tried the procedure to restart dualboot natively or Rockbox mode. Nothing. (still black screen)
I also no longer have the "click" that I heard when starting up.

I feel completely helpless.

The inability to set datetime will be fixed in recent update.

Flashed without problems. Thanks for your hard work!

I do have a question: after flashing RB the device doesn't show up on my computer at all. How can I fix that problem? Thanks!

My process was something like this:

- I pressed option, connected my x3 and released option. Nothing happened.
- Went to the device manager, located the Ingenic JZXXXX (don't remember the other numbers) it had a yellow (!) and choose from there to update the driver and selected the drivers as in the struction.
- Disconnected X3, and used reset button to see if it was ok and it booted without problem to the original firmware.
- Then i pressed option again, connected X3 and released the option
- Runed the script and it begin to upload the files
- Rockbox was installed

My take: try to press reset again. i tried with a toothpick and at first didn't work but i just needed to push a little stronger (not too strong though, xduoo boots right after the reset is button is pressed).

Hope it helps!

@Bob A (SD) - regarding exfat cards..I don't think rockbox can see them at all, but I'd love to be proven wrong. I installed rockbox (initially used a 16gb fat32 card) but cannot get it to detect my exfat card in slot 2, nor will it boot with rockbox files on an exfat card in slot 1

@fredhubbard2 - hold option down then plug the x3 into the computer, windows will detect an unknown device and look pointlessly for drivers. At this stage open up device manager, you will find an unknown device (will have something like a yellow ! icon), click on it, then click update driver => browse my computer for driver. Then select the folder where the drivers are, either 32 or 64 bit depending on whether your windows is 32 or 64 bit. This should install the drivers successfully. Start up the burn tool and it should automatically flash rockbox

Thanks for this!   I'm running a pair of Silicon Power 128Gb Class 10 XC1 ExFAT SD Cards.   I'm going to hold off trying this port until more is known.  As an aside I think there may be some complications to formatting large SD cards (>32Gb) in FAT32 with Win7.   Also appreciate the sanity check on the driver installation.  Kinda figured it'd be with the Device Driver but in the absence of clear notes in XVortex's installation guide this was needed.

None of this should be taken as a criticism of XVortex or his friends who have developed this port.  He (they) have done a fantastic job thusfar.  It is simply common for some bugs and issues to be noted as the user base expands on a new piece of software.  I remain quite confident that in time the xDuoo X3 Rockbox port will become virtually bulletproof

Yeah, have not managed to format >32gb as fat32 under windows...tried downloading a whole bunch of programs that promised to be able to do it, none of them actually did.
Best way I've managed in the past is pretty finicky - involves booting into linux from a  pendrive and formatting the sd card from there...hence not really keen to repeat the experience haha.
Again, would love to be proven wrong and for someone to show me a quick easy way to do it using windows [if such a way exists]! :)

Totally agree to this ^ !
Haven't had much time to play around with it aside from installing it, but, @XVortex, looks good, great job!

Look for the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, that worked for me!

There's a good tool made by the people who designed the SD card spec called SDFormatter, it'll format any card as FAT32 regardless of capacity.

If that fails and it decides to format them exFAT though, EaseUS Partition Manager is free, reliable and proven one to try, made many 128gb+ FAT32 partitions with it

@Audionewbi3 - for vbox - 'for windows hosts' and the extension pack (after installing vbox)

>wonder if installing the USB driver BEFORE attempting the installation process should be the default method. I note in Xvortex's instructions he says "9) Install the driver for JZ4760 USB Boot if you didn’t install it previously."

yes, no reason not to install it prior to running the install bat file. You can also validate in device manager whether windows picked up the device after you plug it in while holding menu (the device will have a black screen but will appear in device manager. if the drivers are installed it won't appear with an unknown device icon)

re 128gb card - mine works fine but is fat32. given rockbox bootloader uses the files off the microsd i'm not sure running it off the exfat card post installation is supported

>ok *phew* unit working again....what have you been using to extract the driver files?

pretty sure they're from the Chip (Ingenic) device SDK as per http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/XDuooX3

>Sorry. Found a "known issues.txt" file in the rockbox_full.zip folder:

interesting. haven't noticed the noise one.
I've used mine rockboxed for a day now and can't see any issues.

There's one problem that's also present on clip+ - for flac files with corrupted frames (e.g. slightly damaged files) rockbox squeals loudly and skips the rest of the file (Desktop players e.g. AIMP4 do not and this is probably the only annoying bug for me for rockbox)
- does anyone know if there's an open bug for it or planned fixes?

>How did you install the JZ4760 USB Boot driver? Did you have to use the Device manager?

one way is device manager, the other when the OS prompts you for it, the last is right clicking on the inf file and selecting install

>- I understand that you need Windows xp or 7 to install Rockbox at the moment. I can get to such a computer in order to do this, however at home I use a Mac for connecting to my xduoo x3 and adding files and such. Will this still be possible with Rockbox installed? In other words, once I install Rockbox using windows 7, can I then still connect it to a Mac as usual?

PC. or winxp + virtual box on mac?

>
Happy for you! How did you make it Working again?
Mine still dead, with or without sdcard, ( I'm sure it's fully charged), it doesnt power on, and when connected ,it is not seen by m'y computer anymore (error, "unknown or defected USB device"). Tomorow I will try to see if there is another tool made by xduoo to flash it again...

reset pin or flash stock bat are so far solved it

> Also after rockboxed, i can't see my second card in windows. Any thoughts?

it's possible rockbox doesn't implement mounting 2 sd cards as there aren't many rockboxed devices that have 2 cards.
i don't have a second card to confirm.

>I think there may be some complications to formatting large SD cards (>32Gb) in FAT32 with Win7

not really complications, just need a 3rd party tool .e.g. from sandisk

>SDFormatter or that

yep that one. I'm fairly sure i used the HP one though as well.

"SD Formatter 4.0" ( https://members.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4 )  sticks to the SD spec' and only formats cards above 32 gig as SDXC, when I use it.

I've used " Windows GUI version of fat32format "   ( http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm ) to format cards and hard drives above 32gig as FAT32.

A word of warning though, I had 2 Sandisk 64gig cards lockup ( set themselves to read-only ) straight after I formatted them as FAT32. I'm not sure why. When I searched on line about it, I found that a huge number of people are having trouble with large format Sandisk cards and USB flash drives these days even without changing the format. So much so, that I've decided to avoid that brand from now on. I have lots of tiny Sandisk cards and they are excellent cards.

If Rockbox doesn't support a second SD card that seems to me to be a deal breaker as one of the big features of the xDuoo X3 is it's dual SD card slots.

It appears that the Ridgecrop Fat32 program is a good bet to handle the >32GB cards (reading their info here:  http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm )  but again if Rockbox is limited to supporting only a single SD card the format issue is a moot one.

So, as stated earlier, I'll hold off implementing this beta port until more clarity is available about some of the issues raised in the last few pages of this thread.

it's fine it supports it for playback. (one card appears as internal storage, the other as microsd1.) . I've plugged in the 64gb phone card in addition to the usual 128msd I use.
i can confirm being able to play from both. (srsly just install it man. you're not marrying it. if there are issues you can always revert. Just be sure to backup your msd cards just in case (note, there's nothing to indicate there's issue with it) (after reporting the specific issue in case it's caused by edge cases that might not be readily reproducible by Vortex or the rest of us). it's beta but it's as stable as the clip build from what i can tell) . and it's dual boot as are most rockbox bootloaders. Yes at the moment installing it is a bit hard compared to the usual rockbox install tool. Is it that much harder - no not really. are the exfat issues specific to rockbox - no not really - other players don't support exfat, so we can hardly fault bootloaders for rockbox not wanting to load from exfat msds.

but i do get weird issues when connecting the player with two cards to the PC - says unrecognized device instead of it working with one card (and after disconnecting usb the player takes about 30 seconds to turn off but after that turns on fine). So it looks like the problem is specific to trying to connect the player to the PC with 2 cards

@Vortex (win10 x64)
device status in device manager after plugging in rockboxed x3 with 2 cards.

Unless others know how to get around this, it seems to me that while running Rockbox, it can't be used to play music while it's connected to a power charging lead from a power adapter. Mine goes into a USB screen and stays there for the duration.

Also, I haven't actually tried yet, but I suppose Rockbox doesn't yet support DSD files?
