XDuoo X3 DSD 24Bit / 192KHz CS4398 Chip Lossless Music Player

it's fine it supports it for playback. (one card appears as internal storage, the other as microsd1.) . I've plugged in the 64gb phone card in addition to the usual 128msd I use.   i can confirm being able to play from both.

but i do get weird issues when connecting the player with two cards to the PC - says unrecognized device instead of it working with one card (and after disconnecting usb the player takes about 30 seconds to turn off but after that turns on fine). So it looks like the problem is specific to trying to connect the player to the PC with 2 cards

Thanks for the sanity check about the dual cards working properly for playback in RB.  Sorry if I offended anyone when I said that if Rockbox didn't support dual SD cards it would be a deal breaker for me with the X3.

As for the formatting of larger than 32Gb cards in FAT32, a tip of the hat to EmPathWalker.  I tested the Ridgeway GUIFormat.exe utiliuty with my Samsung 64Gb Class 10 card and it reformatted it from ExFat to Fat32 effortlessly.

So it would appear that I need to backup my two SiliconPower 128Gb Class 10 cards, reformat them into Fat32 from ExFat, and reinstall all my music which is a very s-l-o-w process (hours and hours) using USB2 with my Win 7 SP1 64-bit OS desktop.

Only then will I be positioned to install XVortex's RB port.

=) i think we're leaning towards most issues being 'once-off obstacles that can be overcome' not dealbreaker (that'd be the screen in sunlight on X3). Focus on the benefits of cue support, great DSP/EQ/Crossfade, sensible folder navigation and playlist search etc.
hopefully the usb connectivity issues are fixable, let's wait and see what the XVortex says. At the very least (as a workaround), you can reboot into stock if you want to connect the device to the PC temporarily (turn off, then turn on with the hold button in the lock position)

I've logged a ticket for the flac issue I'm having to the RB forums as it's not X3 specific

thanks for the tip re GUIFormat , I'm about to buy a second card for my x3

Guys! I am excited to say that I have found a solution to my problem of using Win 8.1.

After desperately searching for a laptop which runs on win 7, I finally found that my father's laptop is still on WIN 7!
However, as i am studying abroad, I cannot bring the laptop with me.

So my question is and according to what I have read, we only need win 7 to install RockBox ONCE  is that correct?

Subsequent updates can be done on win 8.1 or win 10 by just unplugging micro sd card 1 into a card reader and copying the update files into the the sd card.

After said sd card has been installed into the X3, the update will automatically begin correct?

Thank-you

Edit:
how does one check if an sd is fat 16, 32 or exfat?

can windows 8.1 reformat a 32gb card in one format to another?

do both cards of the x3 need to be in the same format once roxboxed? ie card 1 and 2 must be either fat 16 or 32

right click properties on the drive in my computer will tell you the format. Not sure about whether they need to be the same. fat32 for both should be fine. Whether exfat is supported for non system MSD - i don't know but doubt it .

afaik yes. The tricky bits were for updating the bootloader and subsequent updates to the bootloader are probably going to be infrequent? normal updates are generally just the .rockbox folder on the card.

Simply look at the properties of your SD card. It will show the format.

As for the matching formats query, I too would like to know if things would work fine if the SD card in slot 1 with the RB folder was FAT32 and the second card in slot 2 was ExFAT.  Sure would save me a HUGE amount of time setting my X3's cards up for installing the RB port

i have a feeling the answer is no for either system or second card

ps it sounds like we should start a wiki page for this or an FAQ for Rockbox page or a separate X3 rockbox thread... or something. thoughts on either/both?

Ah... thanks for that link to the Rockbox Forum.  It does seem that ExFAT is a flat out no go with RB unfortunately.  The offical NO DO list is very explicit http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/WebHome?topic=NoDo.  It also answers someone's earlier query about DRM support which is also a flat NO.

As for a new thread... absolutely. But copying relevant posts from here to it would be necessary.   If a FAQ someone would need to take the lead in writing/editing it.

Sorry, Another dumb question.  When XVortex says to start the X3 with the original firmware, turn the HOLD switch ON, then push the ON button.   What is the HOLD switch?

Thanks for advice but I think I'm being particularly thick. Trying to install drivers but only get option to open or save . When I do either a blank window appears and disappears in a second m.. And that's it. Cant get x3 to be recognised anywhere after that. Have to reset

Hi, I've been dipping into this thread the last couple of weeks and from all the favourable reviews that I read, decided to get one of these for myself. Just arrived: I've given it a trial run with some lossless files and am certainly intrigued at this stage.

I saw that some people here are looking for a case. The official XDuoo brown leatherette is a bit ugly to my eyes, so just to say I got a Shocksock neoprene pouch that does the job. Not super snug; but it fits fairly well. Obviously the unit has to go in 'upside down' if you want to listen in the case — with the cabling exiting the bottom.

Anyway, you can get it cheaply on eBay in the UK here and it seems they ship worldwide.

Thanks for all the posts and helping me make the decision to upgrade at long last from my Zen Vision:M (my last post on Head Fi was in 2007...!)
