XDuoo X3 DSD 24Bit / 192KHz CS4398 Chip Lossless Music Player

Okay, after backing up and reformatting one of my 128Gb cards from ExFAT to FAT32, I set up the desktop (Win 7 SP1 64-bit) to copy all the backed up files to the newly reformated card.  And promptly went back to bed.

Once that was completed (~5 hours), I did the same to the second 128Gb card which had much less data on it than I thought (another hour).  I installed the .rockbox folder on it before reinstalling the backed up music folders.

I then unzipped the installer using 7Zip which at first gave me a nested xDuoo folder (xDuoo folder within C:\xDuoo) as the extrraction utility asked me if I wanted a new folder and I said yes.  Deleted that and tried again extracting to C:\.  That gave me a folder named C:\rockbox-bootloader-d312ba8M-160316 with a xDuoo folder nested under it.  I moved the subfolder to the root and deleted the now empty rockbox-bootloader folder.

I then went to try to install the JZ4760 driver.  Tried svyr's recommendation below but got an error saying the inf driver installation method wasn't supported.  So I then tried what hte80 recommended.  Found the JZ4760 under "other devices" rather than "USB devices."   Followed his instructions which worked properly installing the driver.

Right now I'm charging the X3 before moving to install the port

Just wanted to share as others have indicated issues with the driver installation and to re-emphasize that Rockbox does NOT support ExFAT requiring both SD cards to be reformatted to either FAT32 or FAT16.

Quote:
hold option down then plug the x3 into the computer, windows will detect an unknown device and look pointlessly for drivers. At this stage open up device manager, you will find an unknown device (will have something like a yellow ! icon), click on it, then click update driver => browse my computer for driver. Then select the folder where the drivers are, either 32 or 64 bit depending on whether your windows is 32 or 64 bit. This should install the drivers successfully. Start up the burn tool and it should automatically flash rockbox

Thanks for advice but I think I'm being particularly thick. Trying to install drivers but only get option to open or save . When I do either a blank window appears and disappears in a second m.. And that's it. Cant get x3 to be recognised anywhere after that. Have to reset

@fredhubbard2
try this?

  OK, here's a .DFF file.

I have dsd files. I already told you that the rockboxed x3 doesn't support them, it doesn't even show them

I was less speaking to you, than rolling over the conversation by offering material that may help those closer to the heart of the Rockbox development project. Assuming it is still being developed.

Success!

Now to learn my way around Rockbox as I'm having a hell of a time as a first time user.   Seems I built a database using only one card (slot 1 with the lesser amount of data) and now, for whatever reason, I'm stuck playing just one album from the second card.  Trying to play another gets me into all sorts of weird stuff like album art, etc.  Got to read the #$%^ manual obviously

Gonna look to see if there's a "Rockbox For Dummies" file out there.

Wish there was a quick X3 Rockbox navigation guide like the illustration xDuoo made for this DAP.

Has anyone else found that the Line Output isn't getting a signal while in Rockbox mode?

Just tried my Topping NX1 with the X3's line out... works just fine.

Been using my x3 without a single problem for the past 5 hours.
Donation made and strongly recommend all you people to donate as well for this great effort.
One question, is it possible to add some EQ presets in the .rockbox folder ? Where to find them ?

Compared to the stock firmware how does the RB'd X3 sound? Better or worse?

I know this really isn't the place to ask but....

My X3's SD cards have individual folders for each album.   I simply used the random play the most which would shuffle all the tracks from all the folders from both cards.  No playlists involved.  Every once and awhile I'd switch the mode to play a single album but not often at all.  I'm an old retiree and this simply works for me.

So now with Rockbox (and again I am a NEWBIE) it appears I can't do anything like that without using a playlist from which shuffle can be invoked.  I simply would like to add "all" my folders /albums/tracks from both SD cards to a single playlist so I can use a shuffle / random playback.  It was easy with the default UI and it is easy in foobar2000 on my desktop.  What am I missing to be able to do the same easily in RB?   I can't fathom having to add each individual folder (album) to a playlist.  And if a script is to be invoked I'm sunk as I absolutely stink at script writing.   Looking through the Sansa Clip+ RB manual isn't helping....   Anyone?

Still would love to see a "map" of how the X3's controls work with this RB port.

Better as there is no pitch issue, it's gapless, and I like the default crossfeed.

Anyone can suggest some EQ presets downloading place for rockbox ?
i cant seem to find any

a whole 500 of them. personally I suggest rolling your own, using the advanced EQ mode. That lets you control the frequency band placement, width/shape and amount and is quite nice.

fundamentally rockbox lets you use folders to add to playlists (specific named or 'current' aka dynamic) and maintains an internal DB of all tracks (aka database if you press ESC -> database).
to easily add your music from both cards- make a folder called music at the root of each card and move the albums/artists etc into the music folder.
the in folder view in rockbox, add music to the current playlist , from the internal storage (card 1) (i think hold play in folder view after you've hovered over a the music folder) and add it to current playlist, and music from microsd1 (card 2).
to easily clear the dynamic playlist first just add a single track via files view and accept the prompt to clear the playlist

you don't really need to insert it as shuffled, as you can easily reshuffle the dynamic playlist (hold play while a track is playing and the display is in the track info view, go to playlist in the context menu, the bottom option is reshuffle)
you can search the files you added to the current playlist, i think normally by path fragements or file name.

To use the database, you need to initialize it and update it (it's separate from playlists and by default rockbox is set to not auto-update it). To initialize it, go to Settings (esc), settings, general, database, initialize now (you can also select the update options but it takes a while to update it. Be default it will look in / so that's include msd1/music and msd2/music (the latter will appear as /miscrosd1/music). That will take a while. The update option is adjacent to initialize
you can then view the database by going ESC, database and doing what you like there with searching, artists etc. (e.g. the use case of play a single album again)

hope that helps . btw, maintaining the database is slower than playlists and you may get occasional crashes if it becomes corrupted (or just because there's more code there), but worst case you can re-init the DB and update it again.

are there use cases for file navigation or playlist navigation or database navigation described in the manual (tbh i haven't read it, but if you say the manual is good i will :D )
but sure someone should probably make a pic saying what button does what in what view. and a list of use cases

The big problem with the Rockbox EQ and a couple other active features is that they eat the batteries. Fast. I use the bass and treb (One tick up, each.) and save power.

correct, if you use any dsp features, crossfade, replaygain, etc it will use more battery.
I haven't really measured whether Bass/Treble settings vs EQ use less battery. (is there a reference substantiating this, or is it anecdotal) I really suspect they don't and it's placebo effect and underneath they all use EQ (or rather whatever the internal DSP EQ related things are). (but if you use both EQ and Treble/Bass shortcuts, it'll may double the work :D, not sure ).
That said for some earphones I too am perfectly happy with just bass/treble option adjustments via rockbox sound settings menu instead of fiddling with custom presets for EQ or writing my own

I am losing faith in cirrus logic dac it produce clear audio but it is very 2 dimensional i am using ipod touch 4th generation while it sounds cleaner but definitely lack natural effect of samsung galaxy s4 which uses wolfson dac.cirrus logic produces very flat soundstage and it sounds very digital. While wolfson has better soundstage and sounds organic more real to life.

You may well be right. A parametric EQ takes a hell of a lot of fiddling to get things sounding right. Every one of those adjustments requires an ongoing power use.

I'm talking more , once you configure it . it's not like you're going to have to do it several times a day. every day...
