You need a Sony "HiRes cable" WMC-NWH10 for that to work properly as I understand it.
Not sure why it doesn't work.

Yes, the xduoo xd05plus connected to the A55 can be used normally.I no longer have my NW-A55l but I don't remember it being able to output audio via the USB connection. Have you successfully done this with other DAC/amps?

Since Sebastian doesn’t respond to pm’s, you guys hear a piece floating around when you move the gryphon?
I can hear something moving around every time I move the unit. Sounds like a small piece broke off inside the unit.
As I'm waiting (5 days now) for iFi to confirm my questions on the RMA, I decided to use it again last night - interestingly, the stiff issue has been resolved since that part fell out!
@Sebastien Chiu / @iFi audio - can you please nudge your customer service team to respond?
Here are some "better" pictures of the identifying marks on the cells in the battery if anyone is interested.
The red and black wires attached to the 1250mah cell are my solution to this cell discharging too low to recover (this problem may well affect my unit only)
iFi have not contacted me personally to ask for my Gryphon to be returned for investigation, should I expect this?
In any case I am going to leave these separate charge wires attached so that when this happens again I can quickly remove the end cover access the wire and charge the cell without removing the battery or the circuit board from the case.
To anyone saying "just return it and get iFi to fix it" I would if I 100% thought the issue could be fixed. Many people in this hobby love to tinker and improve stuff. Op-amp rolling, tube rolling. This is just my version of that.
The smaller of the two cells:
The bigger cell:
My external charging setup (Note smaller cell is 1% charged cell the bigger cell was at 99%):
My question was about the possibility for a new firmware to bypass the battery and power up when connected via usb powerI do! Apologies that yours fell through. Followed up via PM!
Can you drop me your ticket number? I can nudge them for you.
It's entirely up to Mark to open a ticket with us, if he would like a replacement. If not, all is good and we appreciate his communication!

I have asked about this as well and will update you!
+1 If the device can completely bypass battery and work always-on-power then I will buy one too, even though I am bit skeptic about the 4.4mm jack.If @iFi audio can pull this I will buy one as well.

May you explain why is best your approach in battery life? Normally we think that the desktop mode will best reserve battery, but may we fault...The two usage modes (desktop and battery) caused confusion, so we optimized entire power management systems in our battery products to preserve battery life and with good effects. Still, if you'd like to see the desktop mode again, we'll ask internally as per @Sebastien Chiu's reply. Although we can't promise anything, we're always open to suggestions

Shanling said something similar. I used one of their DAPs always plugged-in. After a year or so the back cover popped open, battery was bulged. I tried to use it by disconnecting the battery, the device won’t start anymore. Good money wasted !In short, it all comes down to battery monitoring and charging cycles so that it's kept in its optimal condition regardless of a usage scenario.
I know it feels like money wasted, but you did get some enjoyment out of it, so there was some value to it. Certainly not 100% of the price, but part of the price was worth the 1 year listening.Shanling said something similar. I used one of their DAPs always plugged-in.
