x can v8 appreciation thread

Hi, guys, after noticing my v8p hums with my pro900 (really really low background noise, do not go up with volume, only come with 900s not 701/880/650, as I think 900s are the most sensitive cans among these cans), I've tried a lot ways to solve this problem but failed. I tried both little pinkie and stock psu, power direct form wall, no other thing switched on, but the noise won't go. Just wondering have you experienced similar probs? Is it normal with v8p? Or should I leave it on all the time and the noise will go away? Or is it that mine is a faulty one?

p.s. my the 900s do not hum with my ss amp or p51.

When my room is 100% dead quiet(late at night for example)and there is no music playing,i can notice(with hd 600) a very very low hiss noise, but it is so low that is almost unlistenable. You must try to hear it,it's very very subtle.
I suppose that many people will not be able to hear it at all. It's almost 100% unnoticeable.

Mine is silent, though John53, from your description of how low the noise is and my very slight tinitus, I may be missing it. Surely any electrical device when switched on will make slight noises, allegedly silent hard drives can still humm at times.

My amp does seem to be quite sensitive to vibration and can make a high pitched, second long, ringing noise if knocked as I unravel cables to hook up my laptop. I was also getting it from opening and closing the draw of the cabinet it sits on and even putting down my coffee cup on the cabinet. But that has been cured with a supermarket granite placemat isolation platform upgrade!

Mine makes that instant ringing sound, when i tap it gently or when there are some vibrations(like when i connect the headphones)It's nothing, don't worry,i think it's microphonics from the tubes when there is some vibration.Nothing to worry about

Thanks John53. I mentioned it because the X-CANS does not do the same.

Hi guys, thanks for the information. john53, I think you are right on this and it is hard to pick up the hum from hd600 I suppose. But for the refference, I've tried several v8ps today from the local dealer, using the really sensitive um3x, and guess what, they all hum around the same level. So I suppose it is common for v8ps when using really sensitive phones. The noise is really really low and when I pick the noise up with pro900s I was in my audio room at home. But in the dealer shop, I can't hear the hum with pro900s, and only with um3x that I can confirm there is a background noise with all v8ps.

Thats the next thing to do

Adds more fun to v8ps!

Yes,it's hard, you must try to hear it in a 100% dead quiet room and then again it's very very low, almost unlistenable. And it does not increase if i put the volume on higher levels.Absolute nothing to worry about.

Yeah the hum is very silent and barely noticeable.

Oh and I have noticed something else. When the amp is warming up the volumes seems to very lightly fade between left and right, is this normal? I suspect it's just from the tubes warming or something.

ALso if I jiggle the plug when connected, audios shifts from side to side. Crap I think somethings wrong with my amp...

Nope, K701 straight to the amp. but if I use my DT880 with it's included screw-n adapter I don't get this problem. I think it's just a molding problem with the K701 plug.

The imbalance always occurs and it's only with the K701. If I hook up the K701 to my Cowon I don't get this. But if I wiggle the connector when connected to the Cowon I get this problem as well. Must be the K701 plug, the thing has always seemed iffy. Another thing is that maybe the imbalance is actually something in the recording.

Fixed it! I just made an adapter that goes from 6.3mm to 6.3mm and the new jack seems to be bigger and this problem doesn't exist anymore.

So it seems the K701 jack was to blame! Maybe this will tempt me to recable them. Damn still pisses me off though.

It also seems recordings are to blame. I tried a few with vocals and surprisingly the vocals on most weren't centered and either veered to left/right slightly.

Another thing s that my hearing in my left ear is softer than my rights, so it throws me off. And no I'm not loosing my hearing. I think I have a bunch of wax in there.

EDIT: It still does it but very very slightly. I can tell it shfts by it's not like it does a complete cut, but more like a 10% shift to the right.
