I have an internal debate raging whether Hoboken or Modesto is the fouler city.

Driving down the Jersey pike I've smelled all the previous smells described in this thread, except maybe the durian fruit stink. They are all mixed together into one purely evil stench that smells worse than the rotten corpses, roadkill, dumps, recycling stations, papermills, truck stop toilets, tire fires, and every other nasty thing I've ever smelled combined.

did you know that 98% of all the natural and artificial flavorings used in processed foods are manufactured along the Turnpike?

How can you tell?

Durian isn't the worst smell. Bowel surgery is.

Yeah. After I have vomitted once for reason or another, as my head hangs on a toilet the smell alone makes me vomit again. And the idea that my mouth and lips full of that crap also do not make things easier.

"rotten-egg" farts AKA Silent Killers are also abysmal.

Fore sheer size/smell ratio:

Burning rubber bands.
Dead mice.

About on par.

Some paper mills in the south smell much worse than anything I've smelled in NJ. Much worse than fresh skunk too.

The scariest stuff in the air I ever encountered was driving by a chemical plant near Niagara Falls. There was no smell at all, but it didn't feel like we were getting enough oxygen with each breath.

Basically smells like vomit. Someone stole a bottle in my high school and it broke in his jacket pocket. Talk about an idiot.

Probably the last thing you ever smell too.

I'm definitely not thinking that while I'm vomiting.
