World Homeopathy Awareness Week

It's not surprising homeopathy still has adherents, given that other 19th century nonsense like Communism or Freudian psychanalysis still do as well, not to mention much older crocks like astrology.

Considering a few Freudian theories have in fact been proven, such as projection I wouldn't be so quick to lump it in the same category as homeopathy. A lot of it is far fetched, but it was pioneering work, and conceptually it makes a lot of sense. Id, Ego, Superego are all used widely and accurately describe how the human brain hierarchy works. Whether or not it is 100% is debatable but it is indeed valuable.

Communism works for Cuba, and just about all advanced countries (minus the US, but Obama is trying to/did change this) have many socialist/communist policies such as universal healthcare, free/heavily subsidized education up to university etc etc. Just because a pure application is not best, does not mean you should discount it entirely.

Look at what a pure application of a free market capitalism has brought us -yet another crash due to greed. As well as significant 3rd world level poverty in the USA. Who does a country support when it can't even support it's own?

I for one think I will just stick to going to my traditional doctor. This has worked for me so far.

Without getting too political like sokolov did here, I have to say my parents were forced to spend half their lifetime in a soviet communist society. My parents were not allowed to read, watch or listen to what they desired. They were forced lie by expressing their love for their government when they absolutely despised it in their hearts.

I'd suggest you live or at least experience it first-hand before you start weighing the positives over the negatives.

Man we've got some serious people here on Head-Fi and all I want to know is what's going to make my headphones sound better?

Here it is, and you can still get these in America: better sources and better music will make your headphones sound better. Do not dilute.

Let me tell you what works: the amount of time, attention and sympathy (fashionably called empathy, though I never believe in this word either) that the typical homeotherapist bestow on each client, compared to the perpetually overworked, case-loaded doctor to any patient. This is where the ameliorative effect comes from, not their diluted-beyond-nothingness potions.

Homotherapists typically charge more too.

An observation by comedian, Tim Minchin. ...alternative medicine is that which "has either not been proved to work, or been proved not to work"

He then follows this up with...

"You know what they call 'alternative medicine' that’s been proved to work?

Medicine.

Tim Minchin's very insightful, and hellishly funny.

I'm sorry, but you seem to be confusing Stalinism with Communism.
Not even Cuba is a communism. Following the ideology of Marx Communism is very much like an anarchy; no govermental body.
The goal of Communism is a class-less society, you can't have a class-less society with a supreme ruling body.
In fact, this makes the term 'Communist state' completely redundant as it's a contradiction in terms.

Now that I've clearly moved out on deeper water I might as well ask:

What's the difference between water containing the 'memory' of certain substances, and holy water?
Why is ok here to laugh at people believing in homeopathy, but not religion?

For the same reason it's ok to talk about war but not anti-war, guns but not anti-gun. Homeopathy isn't a faith but a delusional belief built up from believing those whom make a quick buck on small minds.

Well we've had a few people who believe this works, I'd like to hear more from them...

LOL. So they're small minded and delusional, but you'd like to hear more from them? Really? That's quite a way to start a conversation.

You're right, I'm trying to reply to one and hear more from another. Ah well, chances are we won't hear from anyone that believes and buys homeopathy remedies, it works for them and thats all they need to know. By small minded I mean easily taken for a ride, gullible, not necessarily a bad trait but a dangerous one. Someone that has been mislead could be defined as delusional, so while the majority of earths population is mislead its not only accepted but promoted ergo if you don't believe in homeopathy and the likes you're obviously ...
