Hello,
I just bought a pair of AKG 701's.
They are in the process of burning in right now.
I like the sound but I am not too crazy about the white!

I want to get some wood phones because I like the look of wooden phones.

Here are my choices.

Denon AH D5000 Headphones — $473.00 (Free shipping on this item!) @ COMP-U-PLUS

Audio Technica ATH-W5000 Headphones — $669.99 @ newegg.com

Audio-Technica ATH-W1000 Dynamic Headphones — $395.00 + Shipping

JVC HP-DX1000 Stereo Headphones — $949.99

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I did a search, but there is too much information out here!!!

Thanks,
Ray

Have you checked out Grado RS1s?

You might want to look at some Darth Beyers from Headphile. There's a link in the sponsors tab. They'll be much more unique than the others but from the way they've been described I'm not sure how they'll do for what you listen to. I'm sure some Darth owners will be glad to chime in. The wait will be longer as well.

Thanks,
I am not too crazy about the fit of the Grado's.
I also looked into the Darth Beyers from Headphile.
It looks like at least a three month wait!
I am a little too impatient for that.
Maybe in the future?
I am keeping an eye out on his sale page.

If I was fortunate enough to be in your positiom right now (looking for a new hp) I wouldnt hesitate to give the DX-1000 a try.

This.

Given your musical tastes and apparent budget, the RS-1 should be high on your list. It's better looking in person, as well.

. I currently own or had all the cans that you mentioned as well as the RS1s and Darth Beyers. I would look into the RS1 for an upfront soundstage for rock, and the DX1000 does have a bigger sound stage and are a fun can as well. The W5000 would perform good as well for rock but it has a more upfront sound stage, but not as upfront as a Grado. I would choose the ATH-W10VTG over the W1000s or the D5000s. I would try and hear a D2000 to see if it suits you for your musical preference. Good luck on your search.
