@ColSaulTigh finally WA5 (Gen 2) + Elrog 300B-MO + WE422a 😀 + HiFiman HE1000 v2 and HE6SE v1. In Elrog's first 20 hours and WA5's first 70 ish hours. Huge jump from WA6-SE Gen 2, breathtaking, my end game. Using Woo's stock TS 6SN7 Russia, not bad at all. Have a pair of TS RBP 6F8G, waiting for the adapter from Woo.

Swap out those rectifiers and get those adapters, and you’ll fall so much in love you’ll never want to upgrade again!

Until you decide you need a pair of Melz 1578.

And the Elrog Mo’s

And Susvana’s.

And….

It’s never “endgame”! Lol!

Is below "NOS 1944 Tung Sol US Army Signal Corp 6F8G VT-99 "Round Plate""? or 1942? One of the best 6F8G?

Oooooh yeah, baby! Those are 1942. Also, I venture to guess those came from Argentina??? BuenosAires_Radio has some nice stuff!

No idea. Bought from fellow Head-fier who has been selling his almost new black WA5-LE.

I think I know who you're talking about, and yes, they're genuine. I set him up with Argentina.

For WA5, if my headphone has both connectors, which one is supposed to give better sound? 4-pin XLR vs. 1/4" stereo TRS? My DAC is not balanced.

In theory they should both sound the same. It really depends on your source and your cables connecting to the amp. I use XLR through my entire path, but have tested it with RCA's and they sound just as good (if you use high quality RCA's that is...)

Thanks!! both XLR and RCA's are HiFiman's 'surgical tube' and surprisingly good. BTW, i bought WE 300B (1998 version) from DubStep. It will take me sometime to get a sense of Elrog-MO vs. WE 300B 😀

Actually, the difference should be pretty apparent fairly quickly. The Mo’s need a little time to burn in and settle down, but after 50 hours, they’re about where they should be.

Interested to hear your thoughts. Also, what rectifiers are you using?

Elrog 300B-MO is > 100 hours now. Rectifiers are 1967 WE 422a. I don't do A/B (or on and off different set of tubes at the same song). I listen to one set of tubes for ~ 1 week and then switch to another set for the same albums i listen often. So it takes time. Enjoy the music is more than find the tube 'truth' 😀。Initial 1998 WE300B impression: very neutral, or transparent, no coloration at all (was expecting that). liquid, bass could be a little loose (tiny), adding touch bit (not overdone at all) 'sparkling wetness', which is probably the WE signature characteristics to die for, especially female vocal. For one of my favorite female album, you can feel the singer's 'sadness', so real and touching and tearing with HE1000v2. This is probably why audiophile or music lovers are willing to spend bank damaging money for the equipment.
Next i'll spend time with the Elrog 300B-Mo and see how both are compared from my memory.

@ColSaulTigh pretty much done my compare of MO vs. WE 300B (1997 pair and 1998 pair). I like WE 300B (1997 and 1998 pair) more than MO, which i have sold. I mainly listen to vocal which the WE 300B is most famous for. Liquid, sweetness, 3D, .... Believe our experience of 300B Amp is not complete without trying the legendary WE 300B (90's, no idea 2000-2008 and the new ones).

True, but there are so many others to try as well....EML, KR audio, Takatsuki, etc., Plu9s you have driver rolling to do with each to see which drivers bring out the best in each tube set. This is, after all, a hobby....

indeed a long way to go.....😀 Most, if not all, 90's WE 300Bs went to Japan. Pre-90's are prohibitively expensive. Done some research, the next best batch is the 90's, which can be found in Japan now, used, low hours, or sometimes NOS, at 'reasonable' price.
