Thanks for the review. FWIW, I always thought the WA22 sounded best with the 7236 tubes (preferably the Tung-Sol over the Sylvanias) and while the 6SN7 Sylvanias were good, they weren't the end game driver tubes either to my ears. I think with some tube rolling, you might be surprised just how much better the WA22 is over the WA2 (especially for the LCD-2/3s).

The 7236 I have. I want to push the wa22 to the warmer, lusher side.. Roll of the treble a bit and more low mids... Then it would be perfect ,D

Suggestions?

Which 7236s Sylvania or Tung-Sol?
 
I found the WA22 didn't need any help on the warmer/tube-like side; thus my strong preference for the Tung-Sol 7236s. Driver tubes, I liked the brown base 5692 Sylvanias, CV181Z Shuguang Treasures and VT-231 Sylvanias.

If you can swing a pair of Tung-Sols, I'd strongly recommend it. They were dead quite, neutral and clean and a bit more "lush" than the Sylvanias to my ears.

I have three pairs.. They are indeed very good, but I would like to try something warmer

Simply because of the topography of the WA22. In order to get the full power (1.5W) you will need a balanced source. Otherwise, you're only listening to half of the amp.

Did you ever tried difference between Tungsol 5998 and 7236? I got 5998 tubes today but 7236 are very hard to find.

I have not yet gotten to listen to the Taboo. But I own the wa22 and some other amps. What headphones are you using, and what sound are yo after?

I am using LCD3.

I am looking for the sweet spot between warm and airy sound, warm but not congested!

Well, FWIW that is how I'd describe the LCD3 on the WA22

I have heard quite a few amps now with the LCD3, WA22 and CS300XS are my favorites.
