With the HifiMan, Audeze, Senns., Beyer, Ultrasone, Grado, etc. product lines providing very good sound, are the classics still holding value/performance? The classics are our past reference points. L3000, R-10, K1000, etc.

Anybody with a collection of each era care to share your opinions on how things have gotten better/worse.

For one, the artistry of the manufacture has been sacrificed. The old woodies of yore were just beautiful. Like the cup was the cabinet of a fine listening instrument. Leather was also gorgeously done with beautiful color. I miss that about some of the old styles. I don't miss the prices commanded on the market for that quality of sound but for the classics, it wasn't always about the sound.
